Has the staircase passed the local safety code inspection already? Or do you anticipate changes?

I am wondering if the floating stairs are a design statement?

A photo of the stairs would be helpful... will the countertop (once installed), follow the plane of a stair tread?

I would figure out a way to fill in the whole run of base cabinets, incorporate the countertop, and have floating shelves above the dishwasher, but it requires som planning.

this makes me want to use that space for the microwave drawer. I have some ideas for floating shelves already above that space, but the photo helps. Thanks again....

Thanks for info on stairs. Since they are open, dust will fall through to the countertop below. If you intentionally design the countertop to have nothing on it, it can be easily cleaned in one fell swoop every day. Put the coffee maker, toaster, etc. on the other side where they aren't under the stairs.

Yes very good point! Coffee and all other items can go elsewhere.

I would generally prefer to situate a microwave near the fridge, since the majority of our family's use is reheating leftovers. Why walk across the room every time? My 2 cents.
