I thought it was something like that, but why did it have the bloom parts inside. There was also a pink petal still attached, which I forgot to mention.

That's it! A leafy bract. Thanks so much for putting a name to this strange phenomenon. Now I know what to call it if I see it again. I was not sure how rare of an occurence it was, so I thought it was something I should throw out there to the hosta crowd, just in case. I have had a lot of hosta over the years, and I have never seen this. Is it more common with newer hostas? My knowledge of botany is not deep. Thanks so much!

Look up "Hosta faciation". Not really rare, just cut it off if you don't want to look at it.
