A few more beginning to bloom

A few more are in bloom today. We also made our first crosses outside of the greenhouse for the season.

Hillside Bright and early is the earliest tetraploid to bloom here this season.

Geometric Wizard is not having a good year. I fear it is going into the 'southern decline'. The scapes are short and the bud count is low.

Mayor of Munchkinland had its first flower open today.

Vader's Choice is interesting, not for the flower, but the extremely black scapes. I tried to get the scapes in the photo, but they have a vining weed growing around them.

The rest of the photos are seedlings. These seedlings are from out black scape program. We are hoping for a flower color other than yellow. They are all Vader's Choice X (Itsy Bitsy Spider X O Positive).

Its nice to see blooming starting in earnest for you. I like the second seedling posted, looks like promising color for the black scapes.

We had a very harsh winter, which affected many nondaylily plants. It will be interesting to see how certain daylily cultivars perform.

Mantis, interestingly enough, we didn't have many losses last winter. Many of our southern daylilies did better than they normally do. We think the constant cold, instead of freeze thaw cycles, accounted for that. We have had a rainy spring and the plants are huge and scapes generally are tall, but bud count looks low. It will be interesting to see how they all perform.

I'm surprised you have so many blooming already. So sorry to hear about Geometric Wizard! That one has always been so pretty for you. Mayor of Munchinland is looking good!

I've always liked little Mayor of Munchkinland. I think however it fades in our hot sun, so have passed so far. So many to look forward to now............Maryl

I like the second yellow seedling really well. I hate that Geometric Wizard isn't doing well. It started awful but picked up with the rain here this year,

Yes, the constant cold (a zone 5 winter) was actually an asset (but not for me personally). Of course, we did have a lot of snow cover also. Same thing here--huge leaves, but questionable bud count.
