What to Wear: June 2026

last month

Speeding towards hot weather, beaches and other vacations, will we all be wearing shorts, bathing suits with cute coverups, flip flops, cool breezy dresses? Post them all right here! Need feedback on that wedding guest attire or what to wear to a vaguely worded invitation to supper? (Well, you’re covered for that one 🙄) Planning a travel wardrobe? This is the place for all of it, the good, the bad, the ugly, the wildly inappropriate, the expected and unexpected!

I was thinking of our fashion threads this morning at our hotel breakfast. It has been interesting to see what people wear. The best-dressed group I’ve seen were a group of four Americans (2 couples) who were prob in their late 60s. But one of the women was wearing kitten heels — I hoped she wasn’t planning to do much walking in this cobblestoned city! Pretty much everyone else has been casual but not sloppy. Today, though, there was a woman who I can only assume was American and she was wearing a black sweatshirt with big, bold neon lettering: Cool Nanas Club. Also one of those puffy headbands with pearls on it. Sorry but I had to laugh a bit. You’re going on vacation to Norway (or anywhere): are you packing your Cool Nanas Club sweatshirt? PS grandkids were not with her.

I was in High Fashion Mode myself, with Spanx barrel pants and tee. Ready for a long travel day.

K, that blue striped dress looks like it was made for you !

And, yes of course you look great in the pic with SIL. My question is- I don't know if you shared details on that dress, but how does it stay SO crisp (esp travel)??

@Sueb20, I can’t imagine traveling with a sweatshirt, much less one with anything printed on it! Sweatshirts take up too much room! Their space hogging vs. usefulness ratio is too high for me.

Salonva, we drove for this trip, and I had my dress in a long hanging bag laid over the two suitcases in the trunk in a manner that made sure it would not slide off. The oatmeal colored dress is linen that I wash on the delicate cycle in cold water, hang to dry after shaking it vigorously, and take to the Korean laundry for ironing.

I don’t wash the dress very often as it is very cool to wear. Also I will share a little secret…. the brachioplasty (arms surgery) removed many of the the sweat glands (that are in the skin) and many of the hair follicles. My surgeon removes as many extra ones as practical at the time. She calls it a little perk of the procedure.

    Fun shoes on French women.

I like the silver sneakers but DH called them ”elevated bowling shoes.”

I recently caught a Johnny Was sale.

Wore this with EF ecru crepe pants to dinner for our Saturday date night.

And this with jeans for bridge today.

Haven’t worn this yet, but wil work well with leggings because its long enough to cover my behind.

My two purchases from Norway. (I also got a couple of thrift shop scarves that I’ll post later)

Dale of Norway cotton cardigan. I wanted a DON sweater when I went to Bergen years ago but all the ones I tried were meant for longer, thinner bodies, and they were very woolly, and wool always feels itchy to me. Also? Very $$$. Anyway, on our way to Bergen we drove by the OUTLET. WHAT!? Quick u-turn. This is sort of a weird color combo but it got my attention and when I tried it on, DH said it looked very cute on me. And it was half price, and I have a tee shirt that is this exact shade of teal? turquoise? that I’ve been told is a good color on me. Anyway, it will be fun to pull this out in the fall after I’ve forgotten all about it!

I got this linen top at an adorable little boutique in Sogndal. It is slightly cropped I guess, bc the length works for me. It is a heavier sort of linen so I’m thinking I could wear it as either a blouse or a jacket. Obv a wrinkled mess from the suitcase. The pleats were cute! It is a Copenhagen brand.

The sweater is so you, and very distinctive. Love the linen and it goes really nicely with your tiles, too. You should wear it in the MBA. Or pair it w b/w!

    I love that sweater!
I ordered 4 more dresses for my babysitter at a fancy outdoor wedding gig, hopefully one will work. Two from Tuckernuck were a bust. Cute but not formal enough for the event.
Tuckernuck choices (did not work). Really trying to find something that will work with my raffia block heel shoes, they are cute and comfortable.

I bought this dress at a church thrift shop over the w/e. I thought it was a maxi but its not quite. I tried it on over my white linen pants because I was too lazy, and my DDs said to wear it that way. We have dinner and theater plans this week so I will wear it then, with my OTT tortoise lily earrings.

BTW, I was watching this influencer and she said patterns are best in only 2 colors. I realize I have been buying more patterns, but they have all been in 2 colors. I think that works best for me.

    I love that dress, Mtn!

And funny-- after years (a lifetime?) of wearing prints, I think I am leaning away from them!

Sue, love all your purchases but especially the linen top! The style is great and you will get so much use from it!

Loving everyone's purchases. kswl, congrats to your SIL. That picture is just perfect. Everyone looks so happy. And yes, you're dress was perfect for the occasion.

I bought 2 more pair of jeans. The absolute last thing I needed. But they were on sale at the Gap for like $25 so how could I not? I think I blame someone here that posted about the sale.

My blue stripe Reese pants from Anthro came. I'm on the fence. They're OK but not as good as I hoped. I thought they were just blue/white but they have a green stripe in them too. I don't know, I will need to try them on again and decide.

I also bought a pair of linen blend long shorts from Banana Republic. Dressy shorts to my knees is not my usual style but I'm seeing them everywhere these days. I think they'll be good for dinner out in Cape Cod. We'll see if I actually wear them.

I have a couple more things on the way from Target. And then I am done. For real this time! I keep complaining to DH about the faucet of money leaving this house (bathroom remodel, new carpet in family room, vacations...) so every time what he calls a "soft package" comes, he just laughs at me. I do not need any of these clothes. You are all a bad influence ;-)

Interesting. I cannot imagine traveling without a sweatshirt! At least one. Even to the Caribbean I bring a sweatshirt. I lay it atop the packing cubes in my suitcase.

However, nothing with a saying! Well, maybe some say 'Hawaii' or some such, but never a saying.

OOTD for 93 degree temperatures, early am visit from Irrigation Guy, dr appt, chores at home and abroad.

Linen button up top from JCrew, pull on trousers from Chicos. No earrings bc one of my ears has reacted badly to an earring (one I’ve worn many times before without incident). Cool, yes— good, rumpled, yes— less good but unavoidable and not too bad considering I put this on at 7:30 am and its now 8 hours later and I’ve done everything including getting wet from the knees down from our new sprinkler head!

Yikes, k, I am surprised you can wear pants when it’s that hot!

    Kswl thanked Sueb20

They are so loose they almost feel like a giant skirt, Sue. I am not used to this ”relaxed” fit and they seem very cool to me. The heat index makes it punishingly hot. DH and I are going to the pool at sundown when the temp will have dipped to 87 😳

Im loving the linen lantern pants from Eileen Fisher. I bought one pair new and three on ebay. The new ones cost $188, I think, so I bought inexpensive ones that I can wear just to hang out. The linen is puckery so the wrinkles are consistent all over. Its amazing how lightand cool theyare.

    Kswl, looking good!

Funky, Jsk,Sueb….my traveling pants from Anthro arrived and they fit and feel so cool and comfy. I bought and returned them in portobello- needed to size down and they were not available in tall so I went with light denim .

Oh so glad they worked for you, Irish2! Enjoy!

I think portobello is the color of my second pair -- i thinkthey do run more generous than the navy thin stripe pair I have (which is also a thicker fabric).

I was in East Aurora NY for a wedding recently and saw someone wearing silver
sneakers with a cute dress at the welcome party, which was at a Brewery. For some reason I had to have them 😂 Bought an inexpensive pair from NR. My daughter will either laugh or say, you go mom!

I just bought a pair of silver sneakers to wear when my gold sneakers don't work LOL. I got them on sale at Macys (also at Nordstrom Rack-- under $40). They are a little sportier -- which is perfect for summer-- but then I saw the pewter (in an older style) and now I need to get them for fall/winter!

I have gotten a surprising number of compliments on the gold-- I wear them with a wider gold belt and my gold Buddha Girl bracelets. It is a fun, casual look!

    Morrison 2 Soft Gold (own)

    Morrison Pewter (soon to purchase)

I have misplaced my cashmere wrap that is a *must* for me for plane and train travel, as well as being useful in the office when the AC is too high.

Do I buy the same one again? I like the 79x33" size, and the weight/warmth, but the color was always just a tiny bit too orange. Any suggestions this size or larger?

Ok, I love the ariats .. and ive been looking at the keds for a billion years! I don't like a T toe on me so passing on the ariats ... and going to try some of my fun laces in my keds instead of sparkle. For now. 😂

Cant think about a cashmere wrap when it is 95 degrees before noon! Maybe at 11 tonight.

I am thinking of getting a pair of archies .. wasnt someone here considering them?
