Is this the only place for the bed? Is it opposite the entry door?

Unfortunately, it's the only place the bed will go. The only wall without doors is the opposite wall & the end tables wouldn't fit with the way the door swings. I've attached photos of the other walls in the bedroom.

This is a photo of the door opened which would prevent me from putting the bed on the blank wall.

Totally agree with the whole wall to ceiling behind the bed in drapes. I'd ditch the red and go for a brown stripe or print or beige

I'm sorry guess I can't read. I now see the word neutral. Very good forget everything I said above. Except about floor to ceiling panels. But go a cream, on window a soft fabric. Pic posted above are great suggestions. So your room will be tone on tone, all creams,on windows. Taupe with gray undertones, very important. On walls. A darker taupe on bedding. With cream throw at foot. What color is carpet? May go a cream shag at foot push under bed 4ft. Get 8x10. Sorry did u say your are getting new furn.? You need new longer 6 ft no mirror brush nickel pulls. Night stands look dark and are big, good. Place TV on dresser. Put big palm in corner where TV is now. Remove mirror and put in bathroom or back of closet door. On wall where chest and art is. Paint chest cream. Add 36" sunburst mirror over it. Add two square ottomans to foot of bed in taupe . Or instead of chest. Add 2 small accent chairs, with a small dark wood table between. Still add sunburst hang low and centered on wall.

On lamps clear glass base and taupe shades.

LMAO, what mess? looks very neat to me. I didn't read all the comments, but I would stay away from carpet under the bed, a waste of cost for a carpet that most of it will not show. I have wood floors in my bedroom, and just put a throw rug on each side of the bed just a bit shorter than the bed itself.

Nothing wrong to have a dresser that goes with the bed, it is a bedroom set isn't it? If you already had the bed and but not a dresser, then later in years could not find a match, then I would try for something that might coordinate.

Just slide the drapes together on the outsides and the bed shouldn't look like its crowding the windows.

Also, reposition your curtain rod so it extends out farther. It will make the windows look larger.

i don't think extra rugs over top of carpet works well, nor do I think it's necessary... your carpet looks nice in photo, soothe and calming.

Some people love matchy match... I do NOT so I mix and match... there is an art to that however, for which I now borrow other houzzers assistance!

p.s. i also like keeping the linen lighter than the dark brown suggested so that your headboard really makes a statement.

You can match all furn. But boring. Your bed is antique looking. I though you wanted to update look? So suggested dark wood but longer and more modern, dresser. The days of everything matching is way over. Keep clean lines. More serene, look for bedrooms. Have furn that serve a purpose . Not just filling a wall. This room can be great.

I just bought the bed! Does the bed not work with neutral!? Uggh..Decorating is not my forte!

Can you turn the bed around ? Colours work its the style and design that might not work with furniture in question

Put a valance or swag over swagged on each side of the bed instead of drapery pairs.... then you will pull the eye off the giant bed. (I am guessing you made the bed... now you have to sleep in it/ keep it?)

Oh didn't know bed was new. Yes, yes, yes. Return it get a lower sleek headboard in dark wood. It's to huge for wall. Stay with king. I think that is what hubby likes.

That's the only wall the bed fits on unless I were to use only one nightstand. But even then, we would walk into the bedroom and the bed would be in the way of the path to the bathroom (if that makes sense).

I just took another look and my idea would be to raise the curtain rod closer to the ceiling ,this will make the headboard more to proportion ,let me see if I can find a visual idea :) you could also have a full wall covered with fabric but I really don't like it ,I rather treat each window separately
You have blinds there so you could pull the drapes to one side and see what you think of them ,I do think that they will be too short if you raise the rod ,but you could sew an extension to them if you cannot replace them at the moment.

I pulled the curtains back into a swag to see it would look & the bed doesn't seem as huge, see pic 1 & 2. So, would work to go with the Ballard drapes from pic, if I hung them higher and swagged? Pic 3

I stick with my original pictures posted. I do not like the swagged look because it emphasizes the bed infringing on the windows. Drapes behind at the edges of the bed would soften and disguise the hard edge of the windows... just extend up and out.

Every piece of furniture in your room speaks "classic"... would you really be happy drastically changing your style to something more "zen" like? I would never be happy giving up my classic lines (even though I fantasize about it).

Color and texture will accomplish what you want and you should give yourself more credit than you do! You have a great base to launch from... neutral carpet, walls, a statement bed that you'll see walking into the room that has balance. I like your bed linens too.

I like Genevieve's curtains... the silkiness would add a nice sheen and the print is amazing. The curtains you posted don't look lined... I have similar in living room and love... but really liking the silk for the stateliness of your room.

Some other things I noticed...

the blue / teal color... would you like your room to go this color? A soft shade of blue could make it serene. Get new blue bed linens, shams, bench pillows / fabric change, throw... cream as secondary color.

Your old furniture is attractive but there are too many small pieces of furniture given the scale of the bed now... something long on the wall where you enter the room... his / hers dresser?

If you keep the current linens... toss a throw at the base of the bed to match the darker tone in cover. Color, texture, less-is-more.

Thanks for the pep talk, losthorizonlisa! I also like the drapes Genevieve posted but they're pricy. Will one of these work? Funny you asked, I was thinking of using a soft blue at one point. However, I'd prefer keeping the bedding I have. Adding the shams took up some of the massive headboard space. Oh, and I am sold on a 6ft dresser. My daughter just moved into a new house & needs furniture, so I'll donate the chest to her. The piece holding the tv will go to her too. I'll replace it with a plant as travisinteriors suggested.

Just went to furniture store and bought the dresser. The delivery date...Nov 6!!! I'm learning patience thru this process (waited 7 weeks to get bed, 9 weeks for Dining table, waited 3 weeks on chairs & was just told they're out of stock & now I have to find new ones. Liking Ethan Allen ladder back chairs...another 7 to 9 weeks. My family may be sitting on rented folding chairs for Thanksgiving) :( Sorry for the rant. Just had to get it off my chest! And I know that by not settling on just anything in order to get it sooner, I will be pleased in the end!

Hmmm...you posted curtains with reddish stripes and introduced green....are you trying to tell us something?

I'll be interested to hear what folks have to say about the stripes. I had some striped pillows on my bed that I loved but everyone said ditch them.

Are the drapes something you can bring home and try out? They are very pretty but will they add to much busyness to the headboard?

I'd sincerely like to know when / where are the best usages for stripes.

Furn takes a long time because most comes in from China and points east.

I like your bedding and in reading the beginning of this discussion I was going to suggest pulling them to the side as you have done. Although I like the jcp drapes with the branches it may get busy. Get rod pocket sheers and eliminate the rings they make the poles and drapes look skimpy compared to the heaviness of the headboard. Cream sheers with either a tone on tone transfer or a simple Swiss dot will add subtle texture. Make sure you get 3x's the width of the window so they have fullness for such a light weight fabric. The cabana stripe in your bedding colors would look nice also if it were in a silk or fax silk with interlining for body
