Wool rug types for zoomie pups?

last month

I am having my existing wood floors refinished and adding more in our family room. I will need a large area rug for warmth, acoustics, but mostly for my two small dogs. They get, groomed every 3 weeks, so their nails are always sharp. They are active and get the zoomies daily! My concern is their sharp claws catching in the fibers of the rug. (We had cut pile nylon before with no issue.) I would love to have a pretty patterned rug, but i am not sure on the type (hand tufted, hand knotted, etc.) to acoid the loops. plus, i wonder if they will be thick enough to stay in place with my dogs tearing around. my other thought is to get cut pile broadloom in a subtle pattern or texture and have it cut to size with edges bound. I live in BFE. the closest cities with anywhere to shop is 2.5 hours away as far as area rugs, so i will not be doing that. i will be ordering online for an area rug. I do have a few locally owned carpet places where i can get the briadloom, but they are zero help on the area rug front. please give me your advice and suggestions. thank you so much!
