Wool rug types for zoomie pups?

I am having my existing wood floors refinished and adding more in our family room. I will need a large area rug for warmth, acoustics, but mostly for my two small dogs. They get,groomed every 3 weeks, so their nails are always sharp. They are active and get the zoomies daily! My concern is their sharp claws catching in the fibers of the rug. (We had cut pile nylon before with no issue.) I would love to have a pretty patterned rug, but i am not sure on the type (hand tufted, hand knotted, etc.) to acoid the loops. plus, i wonder if they will be thick enough to stay in place with my dogs tearing around. my other thought is to get cut pile broadloom in a subtle pattern or texture and have it cut to size with edges bound. I live in BFE. the closest cities with anywhere to shop is 2.5 hours away as far as area rugs, so i will not be doing that. i will be ordering online for an area rug. I do have a few locally owned carpet places where i can get the briadloom, but they are zero help on the area rug front. please give me your advice and suggestions. thank you so much!

Agree that the loops are problematic for dog claws - we have a looped rug in our living room and our dog’s nails catch them for sure - there are so many fabulous rugs like this but I won’t buy another one for this exact reason

I’ve had good luck with simple cut pile wool area rugs, they last forever and clean up nicely - when I order online, i make sure there are free returns and then order the small 2x3 size for color etc

i have also used broadloom cut to size for a bedroom and that can be a economical option for sure, especially for a larger area

if you share pics of your rooms, you’ll get good suggestions - also lots of websites have rug viewers so you can see how it looks in the space

for the sliding, invest in really good rug pads - making sure they will not mess up your nice new floors (some lower quality synthetic backings aren’t great)

The claws should not be sharp. What is the groomer using?

Ask your groomer to use a dremel to smooth and round out the nails.

Or buy a dremel and learn to do it yourself ... it isn't hard unless your dogs turn into demons when you touch their nails. Even if they are, you can work on training to desensitizing them to nail clipping/dremeling.

We ended up getting flat woven runners and floor rug from Ruggable for our guys. I like that they are washable because they bring in so much mud through doggie door. They had similar at Costco/Sams.

Washable would be my choice and I agree your groomer needs to make sure those claws are not sharp. Ruggables makes some nice washable rugs , not wool but IMO a much better choice with pets always.

A picture of the family room with a drawing and dimensions would be very helpful. You want pattern but not a lot of texture for claws. There are MANY in nylon or polypropylene that can be cut, hand bound to size. Hard to advise what might be great with no picture and no dimensions: )
