Living room - floating shelves?

Hi everyone! I want to get rid of this Kallax unit (white storage unit, see photo) to make the living room feel more open.

I'm thinking about replacing it with floating shelves for books, plants, and decor.

As you can see in the pictures, the doors and floor are natural oak, so I'm unsure whether wooden shelves (to match the oak) or white shelves would look better. I'm also not sure about the layout, i.e. different lengths, symmetrical vs. asymmetrical, etc. I'm attaching a picture of how I imagine it could look, but I'm very open to other ideas suggestions.

I'd also love some advice on the furniture. I still need to choose a coffee table and a TV unit (or some kind of storage below the TV), so if you have recommendations for styles,colors, or materials that would work well with the room, I'd really appreciate it.
