Just at first glance it does appear somewhat ”matchy-matchy”. Even thoughyou’ve alternated the sofa pillows they’re still matchy-matchy. As are the chairs &/side tables. How about replacing that fan light combo with a modern, no light fan or perhaps a light fixture if a fan is not needed. Adding more greenery via live plants / trees would be nice as well as some more interesting artwork. It’s not bad, looks nice, just a little monotonous.

Yes...I need to work on the lighting. Black fan or white? Would these work or would a chandelier look better? I've also thought of putting a shelving unit next to the fireplace on the right and/or putting a circular table with a lamp on the right side of the room between the sofa and recliner to get away from the matchy matched chairs and couches.

I would consider bringing in some pattern and texture with your pillows.

And definitely some greenery for the "organic" part of the feel. Something in an amber glass vase next to your fireplace.

I think a larger lamp as suggested above would be nice.

Please note how warm the light is coming from your lamp compared to the light coming from the ceiling fan. I would advise a ceiling fan without a light kit, but if this one stay, then change the light bulb to a warmer bulb so the light is complementary.

You asked about a fan. Do you use it? If so, get one without the light kit. I like the modern walnut, teak etc. fans, many online, or get a white if you want it to be less noticeable.

You’re right that it wouldn’t take much to make this a great room. I would make it symmetrical as face the fireplace in keeping with the rest of the furnishings. Add lamps with mirrors behind them on the tables, a few pillows in the green on the sofas, and some greenery on the cocktail table. A swing arm floor lamp would be nice too.

Light curtains, plants, blankets on the chairs, and new fan. I would start with this and see if it works for you.

@ kathy jones …. I really like your drapes, color perfect. This is coming from someone who normally dislikes drapes ( don’t have any in either of my homes ) , but I like yours.

I like your room the way Design Interior South pictured it. Very pretty and welcoming.

I like the color and pattern of the current draperies. Very pretty. I’d just make sure to include that green in accessories in the rest of the room. AI wants to add in some brown/caramel color to the painting. If you like this you can add some of that into the painting or have an artist do that for you.

Some visual with dark curtains. The biggest improvement will actually come from layered lighting, not the ceiling fixture. Dimmers on everything, warm 2700K bulbs.

Large warm landscape artwork replacing the current abstract piece so the wall feels softer and more organic.

Large round wood coffee table instead of the square one to soften all the rectangles.

Large olive trees on both sides of the fireplace.

I think it is better look with light neutral curtains and bamboo shades.
