If this is aguest only entry why not some more interesting coat hooks and a bench with place under for boots and shoes . I have no idea of the style of the rest of your home but Etsy has some really cool coats hooks . For me what you have is over decorated for no reason, A nice piece of art on the wall , interesting coat hooks and a bench are really all that is needed.

Do you have small children who use the cubbies, hooks, and bench? Or will this area now be used by guests instead of family?

Your front entrance furniture and decor give off a ” country” vibe, not really a match to the more elegant feel that the rest of what we see of your home has.

Paint the ceiling a deep charcoal, navy blue, or soft black (like Benjamin Moore's Inkwell or Sherwin-Williams' Iron Ore). This visually brings the incredibly high ceiling down. It creates an intimate, cozy atmosphere in a large volume of space

Edit the storage unit and add a large patterned rug. For me, long simple drapery panels too.

Since this is primarily a guest entrance, I’d aim to create a calmer (but efficient) feel. Suggest removing everything and have an overall look in mind before purchasing anything.

I think hidden storage is key: Try Ikea or if budget permitted, add a custom unit.

A low bench under window will be useful and help balance that wall.

A rug in the entry area will ground the room/add interest.

You could add a large plant next to window on left, consider window treatments and a lower chandelier down the road.

If it’s mainly guests can you do with just a coat tree and bench on one side (for function) - then the other side should have a nice console table with art or a mirror and a large lamp/accessories. No need to make it fully utilitarian if you can.

Lyn - I would guess the ceiling is meandering into the open space beyond (definitely up into the second floor) where a dark ceiling would not make sense. If the entry way was confined to a 'room' the dark ceiling might make sense.

If this is just for guests and not the main entryway for your family, then the organization piece you have is out of place and belongs in a mudroom or laundry room entry in back. To make the entryway both elegant and functional, here are some inspirational photos. Replace the current piece with a beautiful antique armoire for your guests and a low elegant bench opposite it. (Armoires are pretty easy to find in antique stores since people find them hard to get rid of when they downsize) Remove the fake plants and all the clutter you have there--fake plants and such.. Add elegant lighting and a runner to lead guests into the rest of your home.

Your guest entry foyer appears very large and tall - large and tall enough to support a much larger and much more interesting lighting fixture.

Emily nailed it. The only challenge is if people come in with wet coats.

The walls and windows need to be trimmed out to break up the walls . The windows have window sills but not framed in wood which is strange looking . Pretend like the boxes are symmetrical in this picture I didn’t feel like fixing it :-)

The moulding certainly elevates the look too.
