It's the middle of summer.....blooms are not as nice as the 1st spring flush anyway

How far back to you deadhead when the 2nd flush is not long or vigorous.

I cut back to thick wood after the 1st flush.

If the 2nd flush has produced very thin short growth, how far do you deadhead on these short thin growth. I didn't want to cut back to the 1st flush wood and shorten it even more, so I gave up and just haphazerdly snipped the faded blooms off to the nearlest leafset below.
