The 4 over 4 is very compatible with the age of your house. Large panes of glass were not available at the time your home was built.

I like 4/1 out of your options. Better for a coastal view. too.

My old farmhouse of the same age but central Ontario Canada were 2/2.

Are you using grids between the glass, simulated divided lites, true divided, removable grids? How wide will the muntins be? All goes into the decision in my mind.

I like the 4 over 4 the best. Seems to fit the house style better.

2/2 is what I prefer, the 4/4 would be too busy for me.

Our architect says the 2/2 most appropriate. Here is a pic of the original house - unsure of date of photo.

I also love the 2/2 - fwiw we did these in a recent lake cottage built, and a squeegee fits the pane size perfectly making them very easy clean — sometimes it’s the little things 😅 (we have OG 6/6 in our main house and they are lovely but a bear to clean)

Pretty, sweet house. The two over two windows mimic the front door and seem appropriate for the simplicity of the house and its Greek Revival style.

Is 6/6 available I think it is most appropriate for an 1800 home in Connecticut. I ordered from rings end 6/1 for my 100 year old house to tie in with the originals i still have. I think I know your house. I almost bought the older fixer upper at the bottom of the street by the marina entrance before the town beach :)

2over 2 just like the orignal .

The 4 over 4 looks rich to me and they are very pretty inside, but they do block views and they are harder to clean and worse to paint. I have modern one over ones and I hate them.
