Stair Spindle Advice

Hello everyone,

i need stair spindle advice. We recently had our house flooded and we are replacing our hardwood floors. We are going with a European white oak in Robbins La Jolla. We have to have our stairs redone as well in the same color.

I am wondering if these spindles and posts are still in style? Any feedback is greatly appreciated Thank yoy!!!

for me, the spindles are fine, but I'd paint the newel post white to match your trim color and lighten up the railing.

What chispa said. Stair railings are not an item one replaces as the trends change. Were those styles ever 'in style' or a trend that blew through quickly and the previous owner waisted a tone of money 'updating'??? My DIL wanted a similar look when she became a first time home owner. Once life got busy, builder basic was more than sufficient. The staircase ought to match the home's architecture and age so it doesn't feel miss matched.

For me the balusters (spindles) are a bit dated but everything (just about) becomes dated at some point. I do like the advice to paint the newel post white to match the trim. Perhaps painting the balusters would give them an updated look without having them replaced.

Thank you! To make the stairs match our new wood flooring color, they have to redo our stairs This is the time to update it, if it needs it I just wasn’t sure is the decorative wrought iron spindles were current.

How current the spindles are depends on the overall style of the house. They are "current" if you have a Mediterranean inspired house or a Spanish style house, but maybe not so much if they were added to an average 1990 suburban colonial style house, when everyone was encouraged to switch from "dated" wood spindles to trending metal spindles.

So choose a style that is appropriate for the house architecture and one that you will be happy with ... and not tempted to switch when the next trend comes along.

I need to see a space like the LR to have any idea about the spindles. I find the newel posts a bit cluncky for the slim spindles but not horrible but really if you dislike them redoing the stairs is the perfect time to change them both.

What style house do you have? I would use this opportunity to put in balusters that complement the style of your home.

    Certain combinations are classic.
