Have you selected your new wall color - or have the walls already been painted? Please let us know what color - even if it's already on the walls - screens don't always show accurate colors.

Also, it looks like there is a yellow tone to fp vs. trim - I'd at least match the trim color.

The color is Edgecomb gray lightened 25 percent the trim is cloud white

Are you only asking about a different color or making changes (then consider decreasing the size of the firebox and adding a filler panel).

Whether painting or doing more, suggest waiting until your new furniture and accessories are added. If changing the flooring, it will have a big influence as well.

Edgecomb Gray is fine, (even full strength) it compliments the carpet flooring.

why not paint the trim the same color as the walls, same color different sheen. Walls, flat, matte or egg shell, Trim Satin.

The paint the whole fireplace the same Edgecomb Gray in a Satin finish. Even if you keep the trims and wall color what you have in the adjoining room, just the living room drenched.

Ditch the mirror and replace with a framed print.

Looks like the blue gray furniture will go GREAT with BM Edgecomb Gray

I like the hexagon mosaic tile on the FP. I'd either paint it the same color as the walls (in a different sheen - as suggested by Lyn) OR I'd wait to decide what to do with the FP until after you've selected your new furniture.

I do like the idea of adding moulding to the over mantel area - I also like the idea of using a nice piece of art over the mantel vs. a mirror.

I would use a sage green in the whole room including the fireplace.
