I like the second runner rug with its subdued pattern.

It seems odd that you have two different rugs in the area, though. Is there a way to have matching/coordinating rugs or one larger rug?

I’m not used to seeing a heavily textured wreath on an inner door. What’s in that room behind the door?

Id get rid of the runner and only use a larger rectangular mat by the entry door.

Train everyone to place their shoes under the bench. It doesn't matter how you decorate the space if people leave their stuff all over the place.

I don’t think you need a runner. Love the lake pics. My kids leave our mudroom just like this!

Thank you WestCoast-I'm glad I'm not alone! The pics are of the lake I live on taken by a local artist. I know I probably don't need a runner, but I love the warmth it adds.

Not a huge wreath fan and never inside. I agree just a mat at the door and ideally one outside too. As for the art I think it could be better used somewhere where it can be hung at the right height . How about a nice wall color instead.

I don't think the runner adds warmth. it does add to a cluttered busy look. if you need warmth id consider paint along with a nicer 3x5 entry rug.

You have the best set up for a mudroom - no doors/no drawers for shoes under the bench/no baskets - just rubber mats for the shoes . . . and the kids still leave their shoes on the runner! 🤣

It's so funny - you've made it so simple to put shoes on the mats - however, it's still is much easier to just kick them off and leave them out vs. taking two seconds to toss them under the bench!

I like the second runner better out of the two. It appears that you have slate tile (I have 4x12 slate tile in a herringbone pattern in my mudroom/laundry room) - I wouldn't add a runner.

However, if that really want to add one, I'd look for one that brings in some of the colors from the lake photos (the smaller sized photos look better). Try to find one that brings in a little blue in order to have the photos and runner relate to each other. Otherwise, the photos seem out of place with all the gray.

I also am not a fan of the wreath (unless it's for the holidays).

If my only two choices are the ones you've posted, I like the second one better.

Have an overall plan so room has a more coordinated feel. I’d use the pictures as the jumping off point (try them one above the other on the wall on the left/past the switch).

I’d definitely paint the cubbies.

Then accessorize: semi flush lighting, a runner and long waterproof mat placed horizontally across the entrance.

I agree with Dani that you should try to pull some color from the pictures onto the rug.

I'd consider a long blue or green waterhog mat to replace both the rug and the mat.
