Kitchen Table Help and other things

I'm looking for a smaller table for this space and one that isn't so dark / including rug. Looking for suggestions on a table that can withstand alot. This is a lake home and with that a lot of traffic.

I will be replacing countertop, rug and lights if you have thoughts on any of this. Also adding rugs to floor in open kitchen space.

I would look for a vintage pine table. They have a great look, will be nice with your cabinets, and are probably already ” dinged”. I often see them on Market Place.

Do you need the counter stools? I’d cut the new countertop to the edge of the island to make more dining and serving space.

What a beautiful kitchen!! I had a similar thought, the island really seems to be pushed into the dining area. I would want it moved a few feet into the kitchen or removed all together, but since you are replacing the counters just eliminating the over hang may do the trick. Having said that--which seating do you use more often? Chances are the table is less used? That space is very tight and you have two doors whose walk way is blocked by the obstacle of a table and chairs. I might be tempted to try a banquet and small round table in the corner.

Why rugs in the kitchen area? Tile is great for the type of dirt one would assume a lake place endures but it's tough on dishes and joints. Still area rugs is not where I would go. Sweeping is easier and faster than picking up rugs and hauling them around.

I do feel the island does push into the dinning area. And the size of this rug and table pushes into the doors. My hope is to get a smaller tabel both by width and length (that is expandable) and a smaller rug. We do use the counter seating a ton. But we also use the table a ton when it isn't just my husband and I. I think you are right with regard to the rugs. I had them before and got rid of them for a reason.

I'd eliminate the overhang when you get the new counter, and ditch the counter stools altogether. What is the reason for sitting at the island when you turn around and bam! there's a kitchen table and chairs? Even with a smaller table, there really isn't enough room for both an island with seating and a table and chairs. It also looks visually cramped. Pick one or the other.

If you're dead-set on squeezing it all in there anyway, I'd look for a small round or square table, nothing larger than a 4-seater for everyday (yes, there are rounds that are expandable).
