That's the kind of customer service that drives customers away - for good. I only buy one thing at Lands End and I check every now and then to see if it's on sale at the lowest price and if so I may purchase. Of course then you pay for shipping when you otherwise might not. I do find the pricing games to be a PITA - Talbots does it too - but I buy so little these days I just deal with it.

Oh. it's worse than that, and it's not just LE. On the same day, there can be two or more coupon codes floating around so you can find different prices. I found out when I was buying a coat for someone and they were looking on theier computer at one price and I was seeing another. But the sale price adjustment is awful. You wouldn't have to return all 5 items you got to get the last one at the sale price. Even if you paid shipping, it would be significant'y less. I think J,Jill has gone to a one day price adjustment. I had that come up on something I ordered and had not been shipped.

I'm not really a fan of Lands’s End. I used them more when my daughters were small.

The quality doesn't add up to the price, so only sales are the way to go.

Marie, I would call customer service. That you have to have all items in stock before getting the discount doesn't sound right.

I agree that these no-adjustment and price changes occur more and more frequently.

i’ve forgotten which company this happened with but i received a sale email with the same items I had ordered the night before on sale. They had been sitting in my cart a while. I called for a price adjustment and they refused. I asked if she could cancel the order and re-order and got a no, the items were already in process (which i doubt). I asked if they were going to treat loyal customers that way and told her i would not be ordering from them in the future. I immediately unsubscribed. Definitely a PITA.

I haven’t bought anything from LE in a long time. And it has become a common practice that I check for an item on Amazin just for the free, no penalty returns. Hate it really but it has sometimes become hard to do otherwise.

Thats just ridiculous since you could easily cancel then reorder at the sale price. Im sure whoever you spoke to was at the mercy of ”the system” , but the company should have policies to accommodate customers.

I never shop at LE. There are a number of stores that no one should pay full price except in a pinch. Its such a crazy game.

Hope your granddaughter gets the clothes she needs and has a great year in school.

Many stores won't give a price adjustment at all even within a day and they all play the game that an item is immediately in process even though you know it isn't. It makes me mad, especially when the adjustment would result in significant savings.

Eld - that's the best part - I did call. The first rep said there was nothing he could do so I told him to cancel the item on back order. The he called a supervisor who repeated the same line about no adjustment. It was only when I told her to cancel that she finally gave me the adjustment. They won't charge my card until it is shipped so I'll have to watch.

Both Macy's and Amazon offer some Land's End merchandise so I usually check there first. And returns are so much easier.

I find the argument that America can’t have nice things because they don’t demand them spurious.

There are manythings I don’t have much choice about. Healthcare is an example. I know Americans want better healthcare and pay a lot for it, but don’ t have access to it.

I used to love Land's End, bought all kinds of business casual wear there decades ago. The quality is gone now, I literally haven't even looked at anything they sell in over 10 years. I still occasionally buy LL Bean but they're sliding too.

It is getting harder to find clothes of what I consider reasonable quality. High end still exists of course - but mid-grade clothes are going the way of the Dodo bird. Everyone wants the $5 tshirts that you can see through, or where the haphazard stitching fails after 3 washes....🤷‍♀️

There are a few decent lines left, but not many. Of course I am old too, so consider the source. 😆

I had a similar problem ordering from Kohls. I ordered four lumbar pillows on sale, then the price dropped further the next day. I was told I'd have to put in a 2nd order at the sale price then return the ones at the higher price when they arrived. Too much trouble....I just kept the order...didn't place a 2nd order. Geez!

Kohls has had so many lawsuits over deceptive pricing that it's a wonder people still shop there. Often even their "sale prices" are more expensive than the regular pricing at other stores.

It is sad what has happened to Lands End. It used to be a nice brand.

Years ago, I wore a lot of Lands' End clothing as well as LLBean. The quality of both has declined. So it pays to be a hoarder. Recently, I cleaned out a T-shirt drawer and love everything as much as I did when I bought them, all except recent buys. Those few pieces went to the thrift store and I wear my "vintage" tees, turtlenecks, pants, capris and some are 20/25 years old. Blindfolded you can tell the new from the old by the fabric..(true 100% cotton).

Obviously, they don't disintegrate in the wash since some are decades old. I've always worn classic clothes from Lauren, J.Jill, GAP, Eddie Bauer, Talbots, Banana Republic, and JCrew. Last night I dug out a pair of Banana Republic taupe linen capris and they are fabulous. Who even knows how old they are but they're classic since I don't follow trends. So no online ordering of clothes for me. Never have.

Nah. A hoarder, no. To keep and use clothing in good condition and appearance isn't hoarding. Hoarding is to have more than you need and have trouble discarding same.

For some, clothing is like cars, they like to discard and buy new regularly. That's fine too.

Agree LL Bean is going downhill too, though it hasn't gotten as bad as LE. What I really noticed about LL Bean is the weird fits of tops. I haven't tried any of their tops in a couple years, though, so I don't have a current reference point.

What I do love is their "classic" PJ bottoms -- they are high-waisted and generously cut but not sloppy big. Who the heck wants low-rise or mid-rise PJ bottoms is beyond me, but someone must because that's how they're cut now. Tugging at them because they fall down or dig into my crotch does not make for a restful night's sleep.

I haven't purchased anything from Eddie Bauer recently, the last thing was a spring coat and a winter coat, but that was a few years ago. Both of them are excellent quality. I still have some EB sweaters and T's that have held up beautifully over the many, many years I've had them. I hope they haven't taken too far of a nosedive these days.

I've also notice Duluth quality slipping. Some of the stuff is still really good (pants, mostly), it depends what it is. I have some men's and women's tops that have gotten holes in them not even a year in, and I the women's T's have from Duluth lose their shape and get baggy quickly IME. (I like men's tops for heavy garden work, they're roomier and feel more more comfortable in).

LLBean quality has definitely declined. And they don't have the sales that they used to either. And they put their logos in more conspicuous places now, too, which I generally dislike on my clothing.

I read that thrifting is huge with young people and I see them looking for vintage stuff. They must have been in pig heaven when I donated ten pairs of 60/70s jeans a few years ago. When I donate, I swing around and walk through the store, really not looking to buy because of the quality of new clothing. But on my last trip, I scored big time with $10 brand new Hokas in my size, which is pretty small, and I had just paid $169 for a pair, so a real deal. And on the same trip, two pairs of REI shorts for $3 a pair. Daughter who practically lives at our REI says they're $30 and these were in perfect shape.

So it's worth it for any of you looking for quality to search out your local thrift store. It helps if it's in an affluent area.
