You're not giving us much to work with in terms of reference. What style do you want for the room. Right now all your selections are pretty contemporary.

I like rugs with some color so which is more imporatnt rug or art? I assume you do not watch much TV and IMO the wine cabinet does belong there either. The fact is a space is not decorated in a vacuum so we need to see the whole space and the spaces next to it. As for art I never choose art for a client . If you are not interested in orignal art go to Art.com find a pice that makes you smile , many are available in different sizes so once you choose one post it here in a comment and we can help with size after we know the size of the space too. Are the furniture pieces recliners and if so why?

I agree with Patricia. The furniture has no color, so I would consider an interesting rug to spice up the space. Browse the rugs on Wayfair, Rugs.com, Etsy, etc. if you like certain colors, tell us and we can try to add rugs that being that color into the mix.

Art is very personal. Get the furniture organized but use the time to browse all the websites that sells art. Or go to an estate sale and see if you fall in love with something. Yard sales can have paintings on sale too.

What are your color preferences? Would you like to bring in a lot of color in a rug? I love the brick. Your furniture is nice and it also works with the brick and vibe.

One option - could be to stay neutral and fairly quiet on a rug - to complement, but not upstage the brick. You could bring in color in art, and/or in accessories.

On the picture question specifically - since the brick is already the focal point, I'd let the art support it rather than compete. A piece in soft, earthy tones (warm neutrals, muted stone, a quiet landscape) will pick up the brick and the cream leather without shouting. I'd skip anything high-contrast or brightly coloured - it'll fight the brick.

Size-wise, on that tall narrow wall beside the fireplace I'd go vertical - either a single 24×36 in (60×90 cm) piece, or a stacked pair of 18×24 in (45×60 cm) prints one above the other. Both suit the height of the wall better than one wide horizontal piece. Hang the centre around 57–60 inches from the floor.

For the rug, I'd keep it fairly quiet so it complements the brick rather than upstages it - a low-contrast pattern in warm neutrals ties the floor to everything else. And I wouldn't paint the brick; it's the best feature in the room and gives you warmth you can build the whole palette around.

Art doesn’t have to “match” a room - unless it is a hotel room, perhaps. And your art certainly does not have to match the brick.

I think the fireplace decision to paint or not, needs to be considered first as accessories should suit. I like the brick and suggest adding a mantle and a larger tv. If you can find a new spot for the wine cabinet, suggest a large plant there instead.

I wasn’t sure if the seating is mocha or a light grey, so picked grey as the inspiration - before you buy anything, decide on the color scheme and how you want room to feel.

I would keep the fireplace brick as it is. It already gives the room warmth and texture, and painting it could make the whole space feel flatter. For the rug, I would choose a large one with a light background and a subtle pattern that brings together muted blue or green with a little rust or terracotta from the brick. Make sure it is large enough for at least the front legs of both seating pieces to sit on it — that will make the room feel much more connected.

Above the sofa, I would hang one large horizontal artwork rather than several small pieces. Something with a light background and a few colours repeated from the rug and the fireplace would give the room a focal point without competing with the brick.

Your fireplace brick is lovely, much much more attractive than a lot of fireplaces we see here. I wouldn’t paint it.

What color are the walls? The color seems off with the fireplace, furniture, and wood flooring. Maybe it’s the lighting?

Why not find a piece of art you love? Go to vintage store or an art gallery. Just browse and see what colors and shapes appeal to you. Prints and local watercolors can be inexpensive. Maybe then base your rug choice on the art? Just an idea

Will the TV above the fireplace be at a comfortable viewing height? Can the TV be on the adjacent wall at 90 degrees to the fireplace wall?

Definitely agree a “chunky mantle” would look great on that fireplace. Search the different rug websites for something interesting that adds color. Or lean into your neutrals like some of the photos suggested.
The rooms needs personality. Art that you like will also make it look loved.

This is very ai decor so ignore the massive amount of greenery added to the deco, and it may not be your style. But I was wondering if it would look better to switch the sofa with the loveseat and add a console behind the sofa and the two end tables flanking the sofa. Just hard to see if the fireplace wall is the longest wall or if the wall that the sofa is currently on is the longest. Established your seating before getting a rug and adding wall art.

Don’t float your main sofa, unless you have absolutely no other choice.

I totally agree with other posters who are suggesting to mount the tv above the fireplace. I'm done that in two of my homes now and the neck strain that people fear has never been a problem. Keeping the window clear is a very good suggestion.
