Kitchen Sink Choice

I’m going kitchen sink shopping today. I’m between a stainless steel or silgranite under mount 33 inch single bowl. Are there brands that are better than others? My appliances are stainless. My faucet will be stainless or brushed nickel.

I prefer stainless and have used Julien sinks in 2 kitchens and been happy with them. Can't go wrong with a good quality stainless sink.

Think about location of the drain too.

Mine: Julien 30" sink with 18" integrated drainboard and right rear drain.

I also prefer stainless. I looked for sinks in 16 gauge SS (it's thicker than 18 gauge) and with sound-dampening coating on the bottom.

Mine is a Rohl Forze 31.5". It has square corners and I like the look, but they can be a pain to keep clean. Many here recommend the sinks with rounded corners and I can understand why. I don't have a brand recommendation for the rounded corners, but I'm sure others here will.

One of the regular contributors here, @Joseph Corlett, LLC, is widely considered to be an expert on sink installation. He recommends using a strap system like Sink Strap or the Hercules Universal Sink Harnesses.

When it comes to composite sinks, the Elkay Quartz Luxe is much finer than Blanco.

    Yes, strap your sink, please.

I need to look at the various color samples. Someone made off with many of the luxe color samples at Ferguson in Scottsdale. 🤨 And I guess the ordinary person cannot order from material bank.

Stainless always 16 guage good and that size is IMO max for a sink size single bowl any bigger and it becomes a PITA to have to clean the whole thing every time you use it. IMO stainless is timeless and neutral.

Stainless. Avoid a zero radius unless you love torture of spray and cleaning sharp corners.

I've had a Blanco for over twenty years, single bowl in a galley, and 21 x 21 for size constraints, Looks like the day it was installed and there is nothing I can't clean in it. .......and it gets cleaned even during prep. It get cleaned multiple times in a single meal, because I am a clean freak. The dishwasher gets loaded multiple times and you could not GIFT me a Silgranite, even in a laundry.

I too am a clean freak and clean my sink multiple times while preppin a meal I hate the grids in the bottom of the sink they get gross and add one more thing to clean. All the sinks with all the silly too small addons are a waste of money IMHO just get a good quality stainless in a size that you NEED for your space and how you use it.. I use my DW for all my pots , pans the only thing not in there are wood cutting boards and my knives for almost all my needs and I entertain often

I love sink grids! I just throw mine in the DW.

I agree about the many gadgets the workstation sinks offer… I don’t think I would need or use for my culinary skills…or better yet lack there of. 😉Thank you all for your input and experience.

I know Mr. Corlett likes Elkay, but we put in a Blanco silgranite sink in 2015 and it has served us welll with no issues.
