Keep your eye out for some antique garden trellis pieces.

Thank you again, what finish do you advise for the console. I usually like dark finishes but do you think it will make the wall heavy? This living room is facing the kitchen which has glazed off white cabinets and a dark espresso island.

Hi MKH, I think the build in around the TV is a great idea but I have a window on the other wall to the left of the TV when looking at the TV, and there is no space between the window and the TV wall.

I would if you could upgrade to a bigger TV and frame it in nicely with beautiful molding almost like you are framing the tv...it will warm up the space and make it look more proportioned or if you need to keep that tv frame that in the same way.

Thanks MKH, I appreciate your feedback, especially on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Do you have any pictures of a frame around the TV? It's already a big TV, 55". I'm afraid if I get bigger, there would be too much emphasis on the TV.

Consider an assortment of things on the wall, none as large as the TV, since it's the focal point. You can scatter smaller pieces of art, clocks, mirrors, plates, etc. The wall is just too big to be that empty.

This is probably not long enough and it's way expensive, but something like it would look great.
Alternatively, a console like your current one that's 2 1/2 - 3 times as long would look good too.

We have the same situation in our great room. My husband came up with the idea of hanging a drapery rod about 18" above the television. We have a valance in the middle and drapes on either side that puddle. Above the drapes, we hung a very large rug in an abstract pattern. We couldn't afford a painting this big. Since the bottom of the rug was not straight across, the valance covers the bottom of the rug. It was affordable and it looks fabulous! I'd definitely do it again.

Thank you groveraxle for your great help today and for the console picture, I love it and I'm willing to pay the price if it was long enough. Please let me know if you come across a similar console which is long enough. I'm guessing I need one which is at least 100" long. The one I have now is 41" L, 32" H and 12" deep.

abby72, that gorgeous console above is only 70.5" long. For the price though, I wonder if you couldn't find someone to fabricate something for you. Look for cabinet makers in your area and see if this might be an option. Finding a 100" cabinet is going to be tough, so custom might just be the way to go.

...or could you put 2 50" consoles side-by-side?

You can have your favorite quote, family motto, etc. on vinyl lettering, custom sized at a reasonable price. I've seen TVs on large walls look better with thick, good molding stained or painted to coordinate. Good luck!

Also, take a look at Room and Board's Whitney custom cabinet. You can have one built up to 97" long. It might be a bit too modern for the room, though.

Some long wall hangings that hang from high on the wall. Or art on a large scale that can be easily seen from far away, something long and bold and bright. You could get some nice kimonos and mount them on the wall. Basically, you have some great height there and need something suitably dramatic! I would suggest injecting a little bit of colour in to all that silver and grey. Or go for something copper or gold toned to warm up the room but match the metallic furnishings. Asian tapestries would suit that.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but a larger console still will not be enough to fill up your wall. If you have a little money to spend, I would recommend a gorgeous mantle from an antique shop with candles underneath. If you have a larger budget, I would recommend a gel fireplace. If you have $5,000 or more I would recommend a gas fireplace, mantle and surround with a large wood panel and molding surrounding the TV. You need something with girth and height to take up wall space without detracting from your TV.

Decorating a wall with a TV never looks good. Adding mirrors, wall art, etc. will not serve you well. It's too cluttered. Your TV is the focal point. Highlighting it with architectural woodwork is the best way to go.

Groveraxle, What software are you using to so easily and effectively place the images in the pictures. I use quite a variety but none look as good as your representations.

I just ran into this issue with a client. We are solving it by Wainscoting the tv wall and stairway wall to the height of the second floor. You have trimwork around the fireplace and windows on the adjoining wall so this might work in your room as well to tie the space together and make sense of the 2 story wall.

This image from Grainda Builders, Inc. General Contractors demonstrates the idea. This is a very formal implementation but you can accomplish the same goal without so much detail.

Okay, then definitely tile, woodwork or wallpaper and not tchotchkes. ;)

Thanks Deborah, this is a good idea too but how do you think this will tie in with the other adjoining wall which has a balcony with dark railings overlooking the room.

Notice the stained door in the picture above against the white wainscot. It looks nice.

Yep...That wall is pretty tall and vacant as well. I think it would look great to unite the space.

I'd go for a grand chandelier. Might I suggest, a group of different lengthed pendant lights, in a silver or black finish.

I would put the tv in a large entertainment center, making the TV/entertainment a center the focus of the room. Large walls need a large center piece. To balance the entertainment center on the large wall, I would put accent chairs on either side. The adjacent wall should have large, long curtains on the windows, with a compliment color of the walls. You used a textured gray, so I would do a solid gray or black.
