Buying Direct from LG? Any catches?

last month

I needed a dishwasher for a rental property on Thursday. I checked with the multi-brand dealer that supplied our recent build. The LG unit he suggested was C$1,050 plus delivery and taxes. But it wasn't available for three weeks.

A Google search of the model came up with the LG Online Shop: identical price but with a $150 discount, no shipping fee, and they take away the old unit. Coming the day day after Labour Day.

Who will service the dishwasher? Are the warrantees the same?

If the dishwasher has the same model number, it is the same product regardless of where you buy it. Read the installation manual to be verify that the electrical outlet and water supply are in supported locations, and that you have a way to connect the drain line (e.g., to a garbage disposal if you have one).

The catch is it’s an LG. They are awful for breaking, and needs nonexistant parts and service.

Hopefully, no worse than the 2017 Bosch it's replacing. It burned out its own power connection; my own direct wire lasted about a year.

(I look back fondly on my first home as a singleton with only a fridge and stove to worry about.!)

Somehow, the Bosch fried a wire on the plug I installed and fed through a standard receptacle.

Still struggling to get the LG installed. It was missing the wired in plug to the electrical outlet. So ordered that. Now I see the undercounter mounting brackets are missing. So back to Amazon Prime again. And the screw on cover to the electrical connection is secured so tightly it's proving a struggle to remove. Meanwhile, tenants not happy!

"It was missing the wired in plug to the electrical outlet."

The Owners Manual lists the electrical cable as Parts Not Included.

"Now I see the undercounter mounting brackets are missing."

You might call the LG Customer Information Center and ask whether it can send you any missing parts (parts list in Owners Manual).

Found the undercounter brackets hidden away in the utensil basket.

How many people read the owner's manual before they buy something?

Also, unlike the Bosch, which comes smeared with asphalt from the factory, LG provides soundproofing in a roll you have to apply. I'm leaving it off till we move in!

There will now be at least one.

My sister's LG dishwasher had a silverware basket zip-tied to the lower basket. As the dishwasher had a 3rd basket, she didn't need the lower basket and removed it to gain more lower-basket space.

If your appliance has a door on it it may have a catch.

(just thought I would throw that out there)
