Plain English kitches have been doing this full saturation style all along...

I too love devol kitchens but in real life none of my english family and friends have anything at all like these lol. I also never see this style in real estate listing either :(

deVOL was founded in 1989. Plain English website states "30 years ago," which would be 1996. I like both, but find myself drawn more to deVOL kitchens.

I swoon over deVOL kitchens. And I’m a big fan of furniture being used for islands.

My kitchen now is too small for any kind of island, but I used a sofa table for one at my last house. It was a vintage table with curved legs that DH and I painted green (with a brown and white harlequin pattern on top).

When I win Powerball, deVOL will be called. :D

The table was one of those common maple types, nothing special or I wouldn’t have painted it. I loved how the top came out.

I found roarah's comment very telling--the English country kitchen that we are all swooning over (by DeVol and Plain and Fancy, and others) are the province of the quite wealthy. I found this article in House and Garden UK on just how this style came into being:

Personally, I have never cared for the waterfall kitchen. For me. It looks lovely in other places, but it's just not my cup of tea.

I adore the country kitchens. Probably because it reminds me of my Grandmother's kitchen.

That gallery, ohmy ohmy. Thank you! I need to go back and savor it for a good long while! Thank goodness I have a lot of these elements in my beachhouse K so I am only pale mint green with envy.

I am not unhappy to read that waterfall islands are on their way out. I have never liked them. I can't exactly say why since I love stone. But something about them has never felt right to me.

We are just at the planning stage of a kitchen remodel and a sizeable portion of my inspo pics are Devol. I wish my house leaned more in that direction but I will still take some inspiration from them.

We just watched a Dolly movie, ”Unlikely Angel”, and while the movie was meh, the couple of brief scenes of the country kitchen had me in love, And one of those devol work tables would brobsboy be right at home.

I went thru the gallery again and actually noted the key elements out of curiosity. I have almost all of them between my K and two pantries; no wonder I liked it. I think the only thing I am missing is hanging pots but my K is busy enough.

Of course, my kitchen was inspired by one in Mousehall, Cornwall, in the UK (hat tip @kswl !) so it will of course reflect this style. I have tiny little ceramic mouse on twine hanging on the doorknob of the door to the pantry annex (which lives its life propped open; it exists because the room used to be a maid's room.

I had a lot of those things in my 1890 Kitchen do over in AL. I had the perfect glass front freestanding gas fireplace as well with my rocker next to it to set my coffee on top. Marble, antique windows for cabinet doors, original brick chimney accent , antique soapstone sinks (2) , hinged wall faucets (2) antique lighting on and on. I used Devol as my inspiration. Won’t ever have another chance but still miss that kitchen and all the amazing baking and meals. ❤️Traileunner/ c

@mtnrdredux_gw ahead of my time or back in time 🤷😊. We got to enjoy it from 2007-2017. Nothing has been replaced or changed at all by the several buyers since but the wall color and lighting ( idiots ) and I took the butcher block island . So almost 27 yrs . stands the test I guess. 🙏 Trailrunner

Yeah I saw one of these traditional kitchens (yellow) but with the glass door fridge (to show off, I think) in an apartment that was otherwise 1972 Bob and Emily Hartley. Not good.

DeVol is amazing! I was very much inspired by them when I renovated my kitchen five years ago, and used some of their light fixtures and hardware. So beautiful.
They have a store in NYC- 28 Bond Street- I was thrilled to visit last time I was there. There’s one in LA, too.
