I immediately thought of Mrs. Patmore’s kitchen, and saw where The Biltmore had an exhibition that included a recreation of the Downton Abbey kitchen. Maybe it was a traveling exhibition.

Plain English kitches have been doing this full saturation style all along...

I too love devol kitchens but in real life none of my english family and friends have anything at all like these lol. I also never see this style in real estate listing either :(

deVOL was founded in 1989. Plain English website states "30 years ago," which would be 1996. I like both, but find myself drawn more to deVOL kitchens.

I swoon over deVOL kitchens. And I’m a big fan of furniture being used for islands.

My kitchen now is too small for any kind of island, but I used a sofa table for one at my last house. It was a vintage table with curved legs that DH and I painted green (with a brown and white harlequin pattern on top).

When I win Powerball, deVOL will be called. :D

The table was one of those common maple types, nothing special or I wouldn’t have painted it. I loved how the top came out.

I found roarah's comment very telling--the English country kitchen that we are all swooning over (by DeVol and Plain and Fancy, and others) are the province of the quite wealthy. I found this article in House and Garden UK on just how this style came into being:

Personally, I have never cared for the waterfall kitchen. For me. It looks lovely in other places, but it's just not my cup of tea.

I adore the country kitchens. Probably because it reminds me of my Grandmother's kitchen.

That gallery, ohmy ohmy. Thank you! I need to go back and savor it for a good long while! Thank goodness I have a lot of these elements in my beachhouse K so I am only pale mint green with envy.
