I have an old, old electric stove that's in dire need of replacement. For one thing, only 2 out of 4 burners still work; for another, it is dreadfully ugly. But here's the thing; the kitchen is relentlessly, relentlessly cottage-y, and I want a modern stove (by which I mean, the amenities of a modern stove, like self-cleaning, simmer burners, etc.).

My choices as I see it are: restored vintage stove (rare and expensive in the 30" size), reproduction stove (e.g., Big Chill), or sleek modern stove (e.g., a Bertazzoni). Another choice would be the new GE "Artistry" series stove, but I'm a bit leery due to the low price, and wonder whether this will be reliable.

In the long run, I'm planning to combine the kitchen and adjacent sunroom into a large eat-in kitchen, so I'd like whatever stove I choose to work in that configuration, as well. But that's a huge investment that I'm probably two years away from being able to afford, and I need a new stove NOW.

I've also considered going the wall oven + cooktop route. I think that would look suitably vintage, as well, but if I do that, I need to re-do my counters, and if I re-do my counters, I should probably replace the backsplash. So that probably isn't a realistic short-term project.

I'm curious what the crowd-sourced decision will be. I know most of you probably won't like the kitchen at all, with any stove, but I'm hoping there are enough people on Houzz that like and "get" vintage who will weigh in. I've been putting this decision off for about as long as I can -- I need a stove that works!!!
