They look beautiful! Great job. Did you paint or stain the treads?

When we pulled the carpet off the treads were in really good shape so I sanded them a bit with a belt sander and then painted them the same dark color as the railing. I just didn't want the stained look because I am in love with the dark color with the gray undertone.

What colour did you paint them? My stairs were plywood, you are fortunate that you had solid wood. Really nice job!

I fell in love with the Behr Premium Plus Ultra, color Stealth Jet. I knew I wanted dark, but not black. This color with the gray undertone was perfect.

Celeste, amazing job! Mitchell, I have an old stair case that needs a little tlc, i.e. Rails, balusters, newel posts and a little repair, could you help or do you do more transformational work?

sharron, unfortunately I had to pay to have the runner installed :/ I wanted this very specific geometric pattern and color and the place charged the same price for the carpet and binding with or without installation. What a rip off right? This way, they get you to pay the installation price even if you don't want to. I watched the guy do the job and its no different than laying carpet. Same tools, carpet padding and staples!

Wow rip off is right. I wouldn't have though they would use underlay. Hummm guess it makes the steps softer anyway.

Love the new look. How did you apply the trim molding on the stair tread that meets at the floor? I did a similar project but cant figure out how to apply the molding that wraps around, or find a product for the job either.

Was the Behr paint high gloss?

Sharyn - that trim is a piece of "Flexible Moulding" which I believe is the name of the company and I found it online. I'm not home at the moment but can let u know tomorrow what the company name is. I bought a 5' piece, painted it white and attached it with an 18 ga. gun. It worked perfectly and cost about $15 with shipping if I'm not mistaken.

@ Sharyn - the website was actually "flexiblemillwork.com". On the right side of the page I selected "Flex Quarter Round" and then you just pick what size you need. Now I see it was $20 after shipping. The material they use is great, you just cut it with a utility knife and it paints just like wood. I would order from them again in a minute :)

@kiableem - I bought the runner from Worldwide Wholesale in Edison, NJ, but I believe they are a franchise so they may be in your area. I needed a wider runner on the 1st flight of (7) stairs as the 2nd flight of (7) stairs is more narrow. I also opted not to cover the landing because we had just installed the same wood flooring on the landing and it was so nice I didn't want to cover it up. The 2 guys came out and they cut and bind it right on site. There was a significant amount of carpet left over which I had already paid for and was not about to let them take it with them! SO, I talked sweetly and asked them if they cloud bind the last piece so that I had a matching runner at the front door. They did and I tipped them $20, it actually only took them about 10 minutes to do the extra piece!

They seem to carry a lot of stain master. Was it one of those? Do you know the name? We don't have that store but maybe I can find the same carpet elsewhere. Thanks!

@laurienordin - the color is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. It's such a great color as it picks up a different personality depending on the time of day/lighting. It's a gray color but with a hint of green undertone. I couldn't be happier with the color :)

@kiableem - I looked everywhere trying to find my receipt and had no luck. Next time I drive by one of their stores I will run in and look, maybe you will still need the info by then.

@kiableem - I got smart and called the store and asked for them to look up my receipt :) - The carpet is Milliken - Cavetto - Aged Silver. I went to the Milliken website and you should be able to find a dealer that way!

Celeste, how did you do the railing? Is it painted black?

Imrava - it was stained a reddish color and I sanded it down enough to get the gloss off then painted it with 2 coats of Behr Stealth Jet (Home Depot).
