roxannpete, misslaur57 is right to check and make sure there is enough room for the bench. On another dilemma titled "Tweaking Master Bedroom" most told her to keep the bench at end of her bed as it is a handy spot for pulling duvet down to and for extra pillows at night. So if you do have enough room get the bench and don't get a chair and you still need a dresser/chest and night stands. Remember you said you didn't want a lot of furniture in the room nor do you, since it is a guest room. Lydia is like me last night about getting darker bed skirt. What do you think? :))

roxannpete, I saw burlap panels in the latest Ballard catalog. I wonder if you could get a bed skirt in same fabric? Just a thought about adding some great texture! :))

@unwantedadvice.......I suggested the ivory bedskirt to tie in with the headboard. The carpet is almost the same colour as the walls so I thought the ivory would contrast more. :)

Lydia, so sorry! This thread is getting long and I can't remember who said what :) So, Lydia, you think rox should have light bed skirt and panels because of room and carpet color? Good point. I would agree with that now that I think about it more. Lydia, (I happen to like your design choices you give on other dilemmas by the way) do you think rox has enough room for the bench?

@unwantedadvice......It could get confusing with so many comments! Just to make sure.....I suggested an ivory bedskirt and dark curtains to match the wall colour. I find this would create a very calm and elegant flow in the room whereas ivory curtains would break that flow. As for the bench, I know that roxannepete was trying to decide between a bench or a dresser so I'm assuming she knows the measurements and went with something that would fit. Lydia, I must be having a brain freeze today!! Or more to the point, a senior spell!!

There is about 45 inches from foot of bed to wall.
And the carpet will be changed, just not right away.
If I find a photo of the carpet that will be installed I will post.
It will be a golden frieze carpet, like wall color.

This will be the carpet in the future.
(Right now it's a very pale white-ish gray if that's a color, lol)

That tufted bench is 20 inches in depth so that would leave only about 2 feet between bench & wall.
(Won't be enough space, huh?)
What is the recommended space to leave for traffic flow?

roxannpete, that might be too tight of a space. I don't know officially as to how much room you need. I put the tape measurer out two feet from my coffee table and I'm not liking it. The new carpet will look pretty, though! :))

Also; houzzers suggested a chair near window. I don't think there's enough room, leaves us with the same dilemma as having the bench at foot of bed, doesn't it?

So wondering, pic 1(?), would a chair work better in that corner with a lamp &/or small table

Would a chest/dresser or desk be a better option?

Pic 2(?), is there room at each location (?) for furniture or just stick to one area for furniture.

I feel at a stand still until this dilemma is solved.

roxannpete, pic 2 is best for your bed. Nice focal point when walking in room. Corner area for small table and chair and floor lamp. Long wall by entry for a nice dresser/mirror or chest. Two small bedside tables and you are finished as far as furniture placement goes. Of course all of this is my opinion. :))

As I look more at pic2, a dresser and mirror. Won't block view of room as much. Then you have more room to walk around bed and nothing needs to be under window.

Lydia, roxannpete has three handwritten pics a few posts up in the thread. The middle pic is the one I picked for furniture placement. Where the question mark is is where I thought a chair and small table would go. Just past the entry door is where I thought a dresser w/mirror could go, leaving plenty of room for getting around the bed and nothing under window. Hopefully that makes sense. :))

Hi Roxanne, unwanted, everyone! I haven't been on this thread in awhile, so I hope I'm not repeating something that was already resolved lol. Looking at your three drawings, Roxanne, I agree that the middle one looks like it will have the vest flow - and I really like that the bed is a bit tucked away, not so exposed, on this wall. However, I'm wondering if you should do a dresser with mirror in that one spot because the mirror will reflect the bathroom door, and this would be your "view" from the bed. If guests can hang up,clothes in the closet, maybe a dresser isn't necessary and a desk would be more appropriate. When I stay as a guest somewhere, I usually have a bunch of stuff (camera, etc.) that gets unpacked and needs to find a resting spot somewhere. So a stretch of surface that a desk would offer sounds good to me.

Also, I get the whole idea of not having matched night tables, and it usually looks best this way, but with mirrored night stands, I'm not so sure. I think it would be hard to find something that works with a mirrored night stand.

Hope that makes more sense.
It's a small walk-in closet.

rox, I would open the entry door first. Then, using blue tape or masking, tape off an area that doesn't go too close to bed or opened door. Mess around with that a bit until you are happy with clearance from door and bed. Give yourself a basic number to work with, no more than whatever to whatever. "Whatever" is whatever numbers you come up with. Get my drift? It is getting late here, going on 1a.m. so I am done for the night. I'll see what is up in the morning, okay? :))

So the long wall next to the door does look like the best spot for a dresser, and that nice little 36" square nook looks about perfect for a chair. One more thing about mirrors - I'm not totally into feng shui, but have read a couple of books on it and try to honor it where possible, but you aren't supposed to be able to see the bed reflected in the mirror either. One more point against doing dresser above mirror! But there's a mirror in the adjoining bathroom, so not a big deal.

Let's make that mirror above mirror - I need some more coffee!

I finally got through all the posts here, trying to figure out what all has been decided for sure. So, it sounds like you're deep-siding the bench at foot of bed, which I'm glad about. I get up most nights for a trip to the bathroom (tmi?) and would want as much clearance at foot of bed as possible. Also, when it's not your own bedroom, it's easy to get disoriented, so I see some toe-stubbing happening with a bench.

It sounds like the night tables are up in the air. May I suggest black? I really like the idea of some bold, dramatic black with the caramels, plus the lighter bed skirt. I posted this on another thread last night and I don't think she's going for it, but maybe you will? It's slightly unexpected - a departure,for sure, from mirrored. But could work!

My suggestion would be to put the bed on the largest wall with the dark night stand on one side and a desk with chair on the other side of the bed by the corner. Guests love to check email and the desk provides a nightstand for the telephone, internet, make-up station. How high is your bed from the floor? My bed was so high that I bought a night stand with four drawers which is plenty for guests. Karen

Hi roxannpete. So glad you went shopping. I like the dark bedside table. I honestly don't mind the dresser, it seems a bit ornate is all, which is great if you like it. The legs are cool, I like their shape. :))

Didn't really find anything I liked or would fit.
So I'm just going to order the dark night stands.
A friend of mine wants to sell the gold ornate dresser & thought it could work.
If not it would fit in our other guest room.
It could always be painted down the road too.
She is selling for a good price.

rox, I looked at the dresser again and it is very pretty. If YOU really like it, then you should get it. Try it in room, it might look very nice with everything else. :)

Roxanne, I too like the dresser. I like how the curves work with the upholstered headboard. I also like how the gold tones of the dresser work so well with the comforter.

For night tables, the black one really grounds the space. Black is good! The mirrored one might get things going a little too ornate with that dresser. It looks to be a good size for that wall. Would you get two, or are you hoping for two different bedside tables. I know it's the "look" these days to do that, but it's. It always the way to go. With the unique and rather ornate dresser, I think matching the night tables is best.
