I think floor length drapes would be great. Here another western room with some cool accents.

Ramp up the Americana more with additional patriotic accessories and if you add a bold wide blue/white stripe for draperies it would give a contemporary punch!

Wondering if a large, rectangular rug that is more neutral vs traditional. I would lower the clock a bit.

I would keep the drapes neutral....to the floor.....and let your furniture and accessories pop in the room instead. I am afraid they would fight too much with windows being so bold.

Is there a way for the couch to be centered in front of that window where it is? Maybe do not angle the little table in the corner next to it. Instead of placing the rug, which is a great rug, in just the center of the floor, pull it in to the furniture to actually be a rug instead of a decoration in the room. Pull it all the way to the couch and put the coffee table on it, too. Pull the two chairs in so their legs are close to it, too.

The room is very masculine. I would like to see it lightened up a bit, with more cooler colors. The curtains are heavy, I would install beige/white linen, add light color cushions to offset the color of the chairs, a lighter rug in a heavy weave, a throw over one chair, and some lighter mixed cushions on the couch. This room could really sing!

Is that a fireplace to the right? If so, perhaps move the couch so that it faces it. I would consider a larger, solid rug (maybe sisal). A few more views of the room would help. Lots of possibilities.

Really? Is there a fireplace on that side? Then really, center the couch with it and put a chair on either side of it, facing the couch. Is that what the rug is centered with? Center the furniture with the rug right there then.

We need more pics. Where is the tv? For some reason that rug reminds me of the Oval Office. What about hanging it. Maybe where the clock is a getting a Reddish shag one from Target about 199.00 I believe for a 8x 10. It would start bringing in the farm look. I would start with a new rug first. Maybe that round one can go in the kitchen. And get a huge barn picture for where that clock is. That might start your juices flowing.

Your ideabook has many photos with farmhouse charm. Many have a large theme piece such as a wooden sign. Do you already have a large piece that you could build on, perhaps somewhere else in the house? Alternatively, a much bigger rug could be an inspiration piece.

The blue denim sofa and the cowhide chair have character. The recliners are neutral (and most people won't give them up), and they could just have a couple of throws added when you are putting in finishing touches.

I will add more pictures for a better feel for the cabin. I do love the Farmhouse look too! I was trying to keep it "cowgirl" whimsical theme since I have a "gone fishing" guest room and we are in the woods.

Those windows flanking the FP need drapery panels that start way up top and drop to the floor. Might need to be custom, but I'm thinking burlap or drop cloth would be easy and inexpensive. This look would work for you - maybe with star-shaped holders at the top. You could take burlap elsewhere, even on standard windows, fancy or plain. It is a great neutral.

I was re/ looking at your living room now that I saw your kitchen. What about making shutters out if 2x4's and paint them that Red with some Brown Glaze stained over the top. So maybe like 4 or 5 2x4's on each window with another board running from one corner to the other kind if like a Barn Door. Or you could make Barn Doors that are on a track for the curtains instead of actual curtains. Then maybe a wagon wheel for a Chandelier. Love this idea. I think it would look great with the kitchen. Your rug on the living room floor could be a fake Bear Rug! Oh gees I guess I could go on and on. Lol

It's probably going to be more like 3 or 4 boards for the shutters. Now I see there isn't slot if room on each side of the window.

I think your walls need to be a darker shade---& I would pull the rug closer to the couch & have the coffee table on it.

I notice that all the deep color in this room is in or on the floor. Might help the room's visual balance to lighten up some of the furniture coloring and add some color depth higher up in the room... an accent-colored wall, or the wood wall mentioned by rm? ...window treatments with more bulk across the top? ...some wall decor with more mass, as mentioned by charna... Add a chair rail and paint the top half navy blue and bottom half white.

Thanks for all of the wonderful comments! Got me thinking that maybe I need to really stick more with cowgirl type theme full blown. The black checked drapes are throwing the room off too. I saw some brown drape panels with red bandana banding that might look cute?! Maybe a white bear rug under table?
Then a long rectangular pillow in a cream ruffle on denim couch?? Whatcha all think??

What are you trying for a more rustic look? Remove round red, n blue rug. Does nothing. Remove all pillows. Add striped but not blue or red. Instead use a cream. Get a coffee table square 24" in reclaimed wood. And a metal legs in black iron. Slightly under coffee add a cow hide rug in brown and white Ikea sells. Just angle on floor. Windows I like shutters. In dark wood finish. De stressed. 4" plantation.

Remove everything from walls. Love cow hide chair. Can we see rest of room. So we can help you arrange furn. Is everything stay or buying new? I wold go leather on sofa. Or new more modern recliners. Lazy boy has some that do not look like recliners. Would work better in this room. You need a end table between chairs and next to sofa. Go between chairs a round one that has antlers as legs. Google. On wall where clock is go big cow skull with long horns, center and hang low. Go on line, these are ceramic have other ceramic deer heads. Very nice. Go a western rustic look.

A bigger lamp for next to sofa put right next to arm not in corner. Get a black rod iron base and a burlap shade big. Remove flags from staircase. Get rid of clutter in a small room, is not good. Can we see firepl?

If no shutters on windows, always take panels to floor, and to ceiling if low. Go a solid navy blue.

You have some great starter ideas. A touch of whimsy is good, but rustic works really well for cabins as well. Perhaps some distressed antiques or a darker, more woodsey wallcolor would be the ticket.

Can you move sofa to where 2 chairs are. Put chairs with small table between by window. Cow hide chair by firepl on other side. Angled towards sofa. Bench you have put under window where cow chair was. Cow hide in front of firepl and bigger coffee table in front of sofa 18" from front. Remove everything that has a flag in it.

Probably sticking with whimsical cowboy look. Here are more pictures of tall fireplace. Did think about drapes to top windows, but odd triangular windows with little space on sides. View is great and need to be careful of not distracting from that too. Agree, 4th of July was my "cluter" LOL, and not normally out. I probably need a second coordinating "Bear" picture that is available to hang above the one that is already up on Fireplace. I did try switching couch and chairs, didn't look so great. Such a small room!! I was thinking about getting leaner/cleaner looking recliners (the current ones everyone fights to sit in by the way). ERRR!
I did think about a rail cart rustic coffee table (kind that are popular now)...Hummm...

I actually like your checked drapes but you could sew on a contrasting piece at the end to bring the drapes to the floor. Don't think you should add more brown to the room via drapes.
