I just did the same with my honey oak 80's cabinets---I've had very good luck with GE Profile appliances. I like tile in a kitchen---larger sized with marbling or slate look would be nice for your floor.

Oh & I think your redo looks nice---would change rug to something kinda funky with blue color of your ceiling

Overstock.com has handmade wool rugs for crazy good prices. I got this one for my powder room redo. Of course, there are other sizes, and ones that will pick up the colors in your lovely (really, really lovely) kitchen better. But I painted my walls SW Rain, stained the cabinets Georgian cherry, and used a white wave sink and satin nickel fixtures, so I wanted a bit of the red, and to bring out the gray in the paint, as well as the blue.

Beautiful kitchen. I won't comment further on it, but is it the area you show in your fourth pic that you are finding "useless"? If you are happy not to use it as a dining space, I think you have it 3/4 solved. It's a wonderful reading space. A neat low ottoman/footstool for putting your feet up, and a sidetable with lamp for the evenings and shelves for magazines and/or books, perhaps a drawer with notebooks and pen for making recipe notes. You might prefer, instead of a table lamp, to have a wall-mounted light to the right of the chair (just on the other side of the railing) -- I think that would give better reading light. If there's a little stretch of wall opposite the chair where you can place a piece of art you love to please you when you look up from your book, so much the better. I think your big round rug is terrific.

Stainless is in for appliances, but to make your kitchen appear larger, go with white
