This space is a formal living room. It is the first room you see when you walk in the front door, and you can actually see straight through to the backyard. It is a large space, and I basically had to start from scratch with furniture. I have a large 8ft grey tufted sofa, two club ikat club chairs (see fabric in image below) and a cocktail table. My three biggest needs right are:
1. Area rug: I have been looking for a 9x12 rug, but in reality I don't know which route to go. Not sure what will go with the ikat chairs. My floors are dark wood, so do I need a lighter rug to make a contrast? Should I go for a geometric pattern, a solid rug, something else?
2. I need another piece for the opposite side of the club chairs, but what? I was thinking a bench of some sort, but I don't know if that will make the room unbalanced since with two large chairs on one side, and a low-profile bench on the other.
3. Art for the walls. What are your suggestions for dressing large walls like this when budget is tight?
