Sunny, we built an addition on the back of our raised ranch house in NH. We also did not have a walk out, and our lot sloped toward the front of the house. Instead of building straight out the back of the upper level, we followed the roofline on the back, making the house a salt box. The addition floor was the same level as the top of the foundation, and a set of open stairs set two feet back into the kitchen connected the two spaces. Our addition was a living room. The back wall of the house was removed, making the entire space open. We put five skylights in the new roof, which flooded the area with light. We have sold that house, but I'll try to find pictures.

Post pics of what you have. I believe it will help fellow Houzzers select relevant ideas to post. TY!

Thank you Fatar. Would much appreciate pics. Our problem with the backyard is that we have a hill sloping down towards the house, not leaving much room, nor does it get much sunlight on the back after about 11am. However, your pics might still give us some ideas to consider. Thanks again!!

DMV design, my house is a cookie cutter raised ranch. This was be the first remodel.
