I would place the dining table near the windows in the back instead of where it is indicated on the floor plan. Also rotate the kitchen so it is more elongated along the garage wall.

I agree, having a dining room in a major traffic flow area is not that great. You have the benefit of building and potentially changing things a bit. Dytechture 's idea of turning the kitchen is great. You could enlarge your island and use it with chairs or barstools or " attach" a table in a T pattern to it.

What about an L-shaped banquet? The permanent seating could start from kitchen along garage wall, then corner and continue hallway. Add a table and a couple of chairs.

I like the idea of moving the kitchen if it's not too late! Meet with the architect and have he/she come up with something that flows better.

antonella_ig is right! Wait until you move in before you buy anything. You could plan your purchase but don't pull the trigger until you can actually see, touch and feel the house (after you close).

One of Dytecture's many great ideas. The present Dining does not work, other than as a giant hallway, so by rotating the kitchen, as suggested, you get a bigger 'great room'. Please get rid of the walk-in pantry (they waste s.f. and circulation space), and put a lazy susan in the corner, and instead ask for a full height/full depth 36-48 inch wide pantry cabinet at the end of the wall cabts. along the common with the garage. On another front, my thought is that with a little re-tooling (primarily door relocations), your utility could go where the closet is next to the Owner's Suite bath is, and then make one single, larger closet, as you have only one bed wall option, regardless, in terms of using a King bed.
