Painting would be your most economical choice.

Hi shaunat, I think the wood cabinets are fine as they are and natural wood can take more 'abuse' than painted ones. I would suggest painting the walls a more contrast color, dress up the doors with modern handles, and invest more money in the backsplash would give you the most value for the makeover.

I absolutely agree with David and was about to write the same suggestion. We have maple cabinets and painted the walls Benjamin Moore Silver Fox. A warm grey like this or a little darker would do the trick!
