Backsplash....Yes or No
Comments (25)The kitchen is really nice as is, however a mirrored backsplash would create a lot of light and not fight with the stainless behind the stove. Antique mirror would work as well, and you can cover the electrical plates with mirror. A cleaner look would be to move the electrical under the cabinets. The nice thing about mirror is it reflects the flowers on the table, candlelight, and special arrangements on the counter, possibly using a large silver hotel tray to hold condiments, and any interesting pieces together. The kitchen doesn't need more color, and is a nice backdrop to wonderful food....See MoreBacksplash on vanity . . . yes or no???
Comments (5)Thanks for the comment. Our contractors are gutting the whole bathroom next week. I will be ordering a vanity top soon. The tile on the wall will go up 4'. The vanity will be about 34" tall. I've seen tops with and w/o backsplashes. Not sure from a practical standpoint which will work better and from a design standpoint which will look nicer....See MoreTo "Tile Backsplash" or not to "Tile Backsplash"???
Comments (122)If you paint the cabinets white, the white appliances will blend in and not be a problem as long as they are clean and functional. I would take down the mirror and art and run a simple backsplash across the entire back. A top trim piece on the backsplash on the open area with no cabinets will help a lot. Backsplash serves a function. they keep splatters from the countertop or cooktop from staining the wall and they add an important design element. Your kitchen will look less dated if you paint the older style oak cabinets...and add some attractive pulls and knobs. You will get a higher price for your home if these simple updates are made. And the light fixture over the sink needs to be changed. I know that you are on a budget, all of these things can be done for a very reasonable cost that you will get back when you sell. I have been a realtor for 38 years, and kitchens, baths and closets are what sell homes. You might want to look at other homes in your neighborhood on your local MLS/ Realtor service to see what other homes in your area have done to their homes. Buyers usually want to do as little as possible when moving into a new home. Your floor can be covered with a runner.... if it is in good condition, leave it alone. Buyers will be able to see that it is a peel and stick tile and they can easily replace it. Try to find a very simple and neutral granite or quartz for the countertop and paint the walls a pretty light neutral color. The gold paint is a NO. Good luck with your project, and shop around for prices, you will be surprised at what you can find online that will keep you within your budget!...See More4 inch kitchen backplash + a tile backsplash above it??? Yes or No?
Comments (12)My countertop guy said that while he could do the 4", he recommends not to because the granite thickness takes from counter space and a bit heavy for the wall. So we're going to do a backsplash in tile after our counters are installed. It does seem to be a more current look to do things this way and ditch the 4" piece....See MoreDeborah Palmer
