As long as you 'size' the walls, it will come off easily when you tire of it. Sizing goes on like paint.

Wallpaper, is the way to go. It adds warmth, color and texture to a room. I love your idea to match the chair. Another option would be just to wallpaper one wall, then add a muted tonal color to the other three walls. This can look gorgeous and gives impact without too much expense.

Beautiful paper, don't stencil- it will look dated right away. I'm not a fan of of papering one wall- it just looks like you ran out of of paper or paint ( the dreadful painted accent wall).

I absolutely love wainscoting. It was another one of my ideas if the husband shoots down the wallpaper. Lol! I even took a picture of what I want last weekend. :)

Cutting edge stencils offers a "Paisley Allover Stencil" that could look terrific. You could even go tone on tone (semi or glossy stencil color over the same or almost the same color in flat or satin paint finish) for a subtle, elegant result. You could even stencil the top half over that wainscoting.

All great ideas! Is it expensive to have someone do wainscoting? It looks like the one I saw had just painted white wall and then the molding pieces on top of it. I thought wainscoting was an entire new piece of wood and that I might have to remove the base board to do it.

All the ideas are great mentioned above. I would use some paper in the dining room. It would be absolutely lovely. Because it is an inset room, I think I would only paper the upper portion of a wainscotted wall. There are lots of stencil companies online. I've seen a few that would be able to custom create a stencil from your fabric. I'm sorry, I don't know which ones they were. Maybe you can google for that. I love the pattern. You can also stencil the design with a soft irridescent pearl or silver metallic over the base color. It's so elegant.

Some ideas

You could just add a chair rail instead of the whole enchilada. Wishihadthat.com has lots of pictures to inspire you and I've found their products easy to paint and hang. Having someone install a real, wooden chair rail wouldn't cost much and wouldn't impose a "traditional" tone on the connecting rooms.

Icon, it would be nice to see what your dining furniture looks like, or what you plan on buying. It's (almost) always better to talk about paint, walls, ceiling, and accessories after the furniture has been chosen.

I agree with Chris. The simple chair rail is great too.

Right now we don't have any furniture. :) We moved into the house about 2 months ago and it's almost 1,000 sqft larger!! The plan is to do a trestle table with cream/white upholstered tufted chairs with nail heads. This is the chandelier that will replace what is currently in there. The next pic is similar to what I envision and then this is a mirror that I plan to paint a soft white; it's a little too yellow for this house.

I think it might be a good idea to figure the layout, buy the right-sized furniture, live with it a bit, then come back for ideas for finishing the space (like a beautiful rug, walls, etc). It's not exactly a traditional space, and it would be a shame to have the (expensive) wall paper you love hung, and then look too froo-froo/feminine with your furniture. Give the space time to evolve. There are a lot of people here who can help with size, scale, and placement of furnishings.

Royal Design Studios has a wide range of paisley and damask stencils that would re-create this look for a lot less money than expensive wallpaper, plus you can choose your own color scheme, add metallic hints, and paint over the whole thing when paisley goes out of fashion!

I custom design patterns and hand print stencils, but have made stencils and mailed the to people before. Paint is a great option if you want it to be scrubbable and durable and easy to change! Could replicate or design any pattern! patina-designs.com
