Go solid. If you can remove 4" granite and do all in subway. Take a color from granite. Not too dark. Dark cream,may work,get samples and try. Only way to tell.

Yes, remove the 4" granite backsplash and then go with subway or mosaic but keep it all the same. Don't mix up patterns or shapes and don't add mural. Overkill and you run the risk of getting something that will become outdated more quickly. Keep it simple.

Can you show pictures of the other walls in the kitchen? Is that a pass-thru over the sink?

Love all the natural light! I am just a huge fan of bright kitchens. I think your best bet is to find a back splash of a solid color to compliment your granite pattern. Perhaps glass subway tile. Such a classic installation. The glass element gives it an updated look.
