Hi amandaala, Congrats on your new home. If you have a floor plan, you could try out different furniture pieces with various shapes and sizes on it. :) Are you bringing any existing furniture from your previous place ?

In the main living space, I only have a table and chairs for breakfast area. Ditching all my old furniture!

Pick a few main furniture pieces that you like & are comfortable for your families use. Bring them in & then start working around them (where your tv will go is a great way to start). Sometimes keeping a style in mind helps too. Once you get your core pieces in, you'll see where you need an end table, lamp or a rug. Bring in some artwork & pull from it. Slow & steady is the best way to make that perfect room.

If this house is a few years old, perhaps the realtor or previous owner may have a set of plans? Otherwise, the bldg dept. that issued the permits may have record plans. Access to a plan is the best way for fellow Houzzers, an Interior Design professional in your area (recommended) or a furniture retailer to give you the best suggestions for how to furnish your space.
