Just wondering.......what room is this in and what are the other pieces in the room like?

In the living room.

I think the scale is good. The textures and colors are too similar, IMO.
I would reassess the lamp once you start placing other accessories or art.

I think it is a rather fun combo. I might try to find a new lamp shade, though.

The finishes clash too much. I suggest a slimmer lamp with a bronze base to bring in the bronze from the cabinet. These are from Pottery Barn.

I know!! The cord is killing me but the lamp really adds a lot to the room's light and there isn't anywhere nearby to put it otherwise. Maybe I'll get an electrician in the put a new outlet in. Abbey jean, what would you look for re: new lamp shade? Silk rather than linen maybe?

If the wall would be of a richer colour it would look spectacular

In regards to the cord......get an extension so you can hide most of it behind the cabinet and the rest along the floor instead of having it hanging awkwardly against the wall.

I agree with mmilos. It's a great lamp, and would look great in the room, just not on this chest. The color/texture is too similar.

My feeling is that the lamp is too large for the cabinet. You can use a lamp this tall, but it needs to be narrower and have a much smaller shade. I also would prefer something that contrasted more,

Love the antique mirrored chest. The lamp isn't playing well with the chest.

Is it possible to move the chest to be in front of the outlet...it LOOKS as if there might be room on the "outlet" wall. The lamp texture looks a LITTLE rough to me compared to the chest. Scale seems good, move it (lamp)toward the center of the top an inch or two.

No. Use mercury glass vases and silver candle sticks instead of lamp. Add some books for interest.

I actually like the shades that Lydia suggested......better shape and the color seems to go with the chairs.

Yes!!! Love the chest there. I like the lamp too but the shade it too close to the wall color. It would look good on an end table.

Is there an outlet by the table at the end of the couch for the lamp? Or would that block the art too much? DON'T want to do that!

Yes. I was thinking it would block the art. *sigh* I can't return that lamp and my gut feeling is that it is just the wrong lamp for this space. Anyone want it?!

I think the lamp is too tall and the shape is a little too classic in relation to the base piece. Something more contemporary....a square, narrow base in a wood finish would warm things up and add a little flare.

I like the lamp. If you move the 2 chairs and the round table back about a foot, can you run an extension cord from the same outlet under the rug and up the side of the table? It doesn't solve your dark corner problem but it might help get light there. I think the rug might be too far from the wall. :(

Will you put the lamp on the table between the two chairs so we can see what it looks like, not plugged in even? I like Margo's idea about getting it plugged in, though, and it might not even take a foot to do it.

Yes and Yes. When the light is on, the shade certainly doesn't blend in with the wall. You know, I think gluing a thin brown or brick red grosgrain ribbon around the top and bottom of the lamp shade would do the trick. What do you think Abbeyjean?

THEN if you did not need a lamp on that table any longer, it could go back on the shorter wall and art placed over it. Maybe just the vase could sit in front of the outlet.

I don't know. My feeling is that the round table is too small for a lamp. At least the lamps I have.

Ha!Ha! You moved the garden relic lamp over to the other chest and I thought it looked good there. I like the contrast with the sparkly mirror. I think some will say it's too rustic and doesn't match your other refined furniture, but I like throwing in items you like just because you like them. It adds personality to a room.
And yes to the other lamp on the mercury glass cabinet in the living room. I like it better on the end of the cabinet, closer to the corner, then a a little silver or gold something next to it. It's a pretty lamp.

This lamp actually works......it ties in with the rug. I much prefer the chest on this wall. It's too small to put on the other wall......it competes too much with the fireplace. The painting seems to be out of place where it is.......try putting it over the chest to create a vignette in that corner.

Chests flanking a FP is classic, so you may want to find something for under your painting for the other side, something small.

i really like the mirrored chest, but what about displaying the chest without the lamp.

the lamp doesn't seem to go proportionally with that piece of furniture.

plus, the chest should display something lighter, maybe candles or frames instead?

No, IMO, the two pieces do not look good together.

Everything goes together!! Pile a few books next to it. If the books have ratty covers, give them new ones with card stock or wallpaper samples that pick up the accent color in your room. If you haven't picked your accent color yet, go shopping, look at the towel and pillow displays that are always do pretty. See what catches your eye. Your lamp and table are lovely. You're off to a great start. Have fun!

They don't stand out together.

You can always try painting the lampshade, or stenciling on it.
