Tile from the counters all the way up yo the soffit.

AAny thoughts on style? Going with darker wood floors. White/off white cabinets. Either dark or gray granite. Thoughts?

I would tile up the back splash to the sofit with glass tile

We are in the final days of our remodel and decided to use classic subway white tile all of the way up from the granite counter (gray tones). We added a horizontal 6 inch band of linear glass/granite tile as an accent. We love the look it adds and the way it ties things together. Cabinets are white shaker style. Good luck!

White cabinets, grey stone and subway tile = safe, boring and dull.

Why not bring in some color?
A stone with some green or blue swirls, cabinets that have an undertone of that color in the glaze - or with interiors that are painted a cheery contrasting color - and some handmade tiles for the backsplash with a variegated glaze that pullsits colors from the stonework?

bepsf...cabinets are going to be dove white with mocha glaze or canvas with glaze so not white/white. agree, I want some fun in this for sure but its a small space so dont want to go too overboard. I was thinking to do the fun in the back splash, maybe looking for ideas. The granite is still also up in the air, was thinking gray or dark like even a fun black. Also did see this really cool "red marinace" which I liked but im not totally sold on it yet. Still working, about to order the cabinets though.....so once I get my color samples ill decide but again it wont be stark white.

No granite backsplash, honed granite countertops, penny round tiles all the way up. Maybe two or three shades of tile from the same color family, laid in a random pattern for visual interest?

OK - so here is a tile BS all the way around the window...I guess its cool. Really depends on style but im seeing it out there. I know its personal but I didnt want to do anything crazy without knowing or being "in the know" :)

I just renovated my kitchen. I did not do a backsplash of tile all of the way up to the cabinet as is traditionally done. My cabinets are white dove with statuary marble counter tops. I did a special ogee edging and then did a 5 inch backsplash of the statuary marble with a special ogee edging To give it more detail. I loved my marble so much and had a hard time deciding on a backsplash. I painted a grey/slight green under tone above. Under my hood, i used the statuary marble to frame out a basketweave design. I think it came out really nice. My goal was to bring in some color, so that my kitchen wasn't so stark with all of the white. I have a white island and leathered/antiqued back granite countertop.

i love a tile back splash, it give you the chance to add another element instead of adding more granite. have fun deciding!

B- tile from the cabinets to the counter, no granite backspash. Use a subway tile with a decorative trim around the bottom. Go with dark granite (black pearl, black)

You could go with recycled glass tiles to really add color and make it pop.

Comment to bepsf: the "safe and boring" design I chose has given us an excellent opportunity to accent with a variety of artwork and accessories with a classic back round which is timeless. I love color as well and enjoy having the best of both worlds. I am sure you enjoy your kitchen too. Diversity is what keeps thing interesting.

Use tile. People call this style the "gourmet" kitchen. More homes are being built with tile backsplash. It is a look you will be more satisfied with when it is done rather than paint and a standard 4" backsplash. Go with a basic 4 x4 noce tile design. I wouldn't suggest being too creative on the tile design as you want the granite countertops to be the star of the kitchen, not the backsplash.
