Floor to ceiling drapes DIY.

I love the look of floor to ceiling drapes. It makes the room look modern, romantic, peaceful and beautiful all at once. I would really like to re-create a similar look in my bedroom, but my ceilings are 114'' high. This creates a problem, because ready-made drapes come in lengths of 108'' or 120''. Custom-made drapes run upwards of $1000-2000. Quite honestly, I would spend that much for something I love, but the apartment I am in now is temporary (1-2 years) and who knows what the ceiling height will be in my next place.

So my question is - if I buy ready made 120'' curtains (I found some for a good price - see last picture), could I hem them or hand sew the extra 6 inches away? I do not own or know how to operate a sewing machine, so that's out of the question. Has anyone done this? Tips and suggestions are welcome!
