Thanks for the response Megan. I am considering the Norwell Vidalia Onion and am trying to determine best size. To give me a sense of scale, can you tell me how tall the garage doors are? I was looking at the medium, thinking that the large would be too big......but the large looks just right on your project. (And thanks for the tip about the LED bulbs too.)

I totally understand what you are going through. I can't tell you how many times I had my husband stand there with a measuring tape. I was torn between the medium and large. Most of the fixture is metal with height but not a lot of width. What I realized by going to the large they still don't look heavy and too big. I am so glad I did the larger. and we have a medium one on the other side where there is a man door. Our doors are 8' tall by 8'4" wide. Everyone in our neighborhood has lanterns, I really wanted something different. I do love the way it turned out- glad you like them too!!

Great input about the dimensional impact of the different sizes Megan, big big help. (I'm standing in the partially remodeled kitchen with a brown paper grocery bag cut apart and spread out on the new counters.....trying to "sketch" the medium and large onion lanterns to scale so I can hang them on the garage and see how they look. Hah - epic fail! Art wasn't my strength in school......) Congratulations on a great project.

Good luck! You'll have to post images if your finished product to this thread so I can see!! I used painters tape and marked top bottom and sides- then stepped back to check scale.

I love the way your garage conversion looks! Could you tell me more about the doors? Do they slide to the side or lift? Are they insulated? Thanks!

The doors are original to the 1920's garage. They are super heavy and solid wood. The panels below are inset with bead board. They are not insulated. They slide open on rail. Electric door in back off alley.
