Does wall color work?

Good Morning,

I posted my family room and you have all been so helpful. I ordered a rug and since I'm waiting for it to come I figured I finish the dining room I started back in January. The color I started painting is BM Bleeker Beige. The crown, chair and floor molding are white. I purchased ivory silk roman shades and I have silk panels in a clay color that match the wall color. The rug has red, green, gold and brownish beige clay. My chair fabric is green with gold and red. There are two windows with a beautiful view so the shades and panels are just for warmth and to soften. The shades will go down at night though.

My question though is there a better color I should be using? It just doesn't feel right. Can I make it work or should I start over? Any and all suggestions welcome.

Oh I like the idea of a drum shade for over the table just haven't found one I love yet.

Just a thought about painting the ceiling. We did that in our kitchen area. Painted the kitchen the wall colour, then had one pass with the ceiling spackle (the drywaller did that) over the paint. Absolutely wonderful result. Would look fabulous in a dining room!

Ooops....meant to say that we painted the kitchen "ceiling" the wall colour CC400 Sundial, then the dry waller did his magic!

Bleeker Beige is a classic colour, well done. But what about adding some stock moulding to the bottom under the chair rail and painting the whole bottom from chair rail to baseboard all the same white trim colour which will look like beautiful wainscot. This will make it feel a little fresher.

And what about a stronger colour on the ceiling for a pop. Since the curtains are already bought and seem quite neutral, a pop of red on the ceiling might be nice! Very dramatic. And do add a large ceiling medallion too, which can be trim white but in flat finish.

Also, a drum shade is nice, but I actually like what you have! Consider spraying it black and of course getting all matching type light bulbs. Or if you go for a more neutral shade on the ceiling (still with a large medallion), you can even spray the light fixture red! That would be an unexpected pop.

There are so many options here as you have so many nice classic pieces in classic colours. Continue to search Houzz for inspiration and do try something a little different so your space doesn't feel cookie cutter.

    Well done so far! :D

I am a decorator in Ontario. I like what you have started with! The drum shade will be terrific. It would nice to see the trim built up a bit heavier. Then paint it a warmer white, CC-50 by Benjamin Moore. Add side panels to the window over your Roman blinds, it will soften the windows and add another layer to the room. Perhaps add a host and hostess chair and choose something fully upholstered so it breaks up all the wood in the room. Good luck, and be sure to post the " after " picture!!!

Ghent....it is truly lovely. I love what Maquire said..." it's common to question your choices at this stage." How many times have I felt that way! All of these suggestions are great ones....but right now stick with your plan. As you finish, then several of these ideas are going to inspire you to do more. Not a thing wrong with letting the room settle...mellow...and then put finishing touches just like icing on cake. If you still question your paint.....you can adjust it. But you have a beautiful start. Now.....lol...someone needs to tell me to listen to my own advice!

Love color, carpet, chair fabric. Paint ceiling two shades lighter than wall on color swatch, put white medallion on ceiling for light fixture, add red mini shades with beading to the chandelier for drama. Definitely paint the wall white below the chair rail for a wainscot-appearance, adding picture molding to it. Your room will be beautiful. What do the draperies look like?

I think it is fine, but change out the white table linens for some texture and color there.
