I was told that tile is just as easy on the joints, but I don't think so. Hiding dirt is a good thing. We have three dogs!

If anything leaks on a hardwood floor you will have problems...been there, done that. :)

Tiles with a dark grout color is what I recommend. Soften with rugs that are cleanable.

This is such a great question. Tile is always an easy choice for a kitchen, however, when faced with value over time...wood is always going to be your best bet. In the kitchen, have a throw rug in front of your sink and, as with in the rest of the house with hardwood flooring, never let any liquid sit for a period of time.
