Hello kosvath - Probably best judgement in your case to apply tile above the existing set-on granite splash. Removing the set-on granite could possible cause damage to counters - and likely to the wall surface behind it.

If we were starting from scratch, of course, we'd much more often tile right down to the counter deck - but it is not at all unusual for us to do just what you propose. It can be very attractive - and has an additional benefit of moving the tile-to-granite caulk line up away from the wipe-it-clean area at the rear of your tops. (The granite-to-granite siliconed joint at the bottom of your set-on splash is much less likely to need occasional re-dressing than is a tile-to-granite joint.) Hope all goes well! Mark
