It depends on what else is happening in the room.

I'm not crazy about dark brown painted furniture--if it is going to be a dark brown I'd rather see real wood. But with a purple/blue fabric I think either white or black painted wood could look great, depending on what the rest of the furniture in your room looks like and your color palette as a whole.

Not sure what the remaining colours in your room are but I would look to make the simple lines of the chair dynamite by using a wonderful rich deep blue velvet or a great black on black damask. Don't over look the wonderful indoor/outdoor fabrics that are a tough as nails if you have high traffic in your home (grandchildren, children). Have fun!!!
