Stain baseboard or White baseboard for this bedroom

Hello,

I would love some feedback on my new bedroom. I stained the windows and door trim but opted based on the advice of several folks to use white baseboards. Additionally, I wasn't too keen on staining, finishing and coping the baseboards since it takes considerably longer. I am on the fence on the outcome... Was wondering what others thoughts are.

PS - I haven't nailed in the baseboards yet, so a yet to be determined change will be easy.

I would change the outlets to white.

It appears the rest of the house has white baseboards, correct? If so l would leave them white. Once you get a rug and furniture in the room it will be fine.

Hi Angus - Since you've got both white and stain going already here on your wood work, you could easily go either way with the base. I'm preferring stained base here, though. White seems a bit jumpy to me against the wood floor, and draws your eye down - which I don't find helpful in this room. Then leave the outlets darker. Good luck! Mark

For some reason that I can't put my finger on, the base seems too small. What size is it?

Could you do a larger white base and add a stained shoe mold?

Get out the coping saw. You definitely want stained baseboards to match the other trim.

You have done a great job. Now finish it right.

If you don't believe me, take one piece of baseboard and stain it. Put it in place, as you have done to the white ones. You won't want to go back.

Thanks everyone for the quick feedback. I am leaning towards larger baseboard and stained trim at the moment. But it seems to change almost by the hour. HA!

catieb - I am not a fan of the shoe mold/quarter round look. Color or stain. It's just not my preference. I will only install it if there is significant gap between the floor and the baseboard.

Hi,

Do you have a piece of door trim or any leftover trim you can place against the floor as a "pretend" baseboard for a visual?

I agree that the baseboard should be stained like your floor and window trim and larger than it is right now.

Your room will look better if you paint the angled portion the same color as the wall.

I am not a big fan of accent walls, unless the room is gigantic. It chops up the room, but if you love it, keep it.

You wanted advice about the baseboard......I know......sorry, just have to let you know.

Stain them and add to them to make them a bit taller. I would match them to the window

Thanks again everyone... gonna purchase the trim today and get crackin....
cdrdesign... - not sure on the angled part. I think I am going to leave that as is. Too many decisions.

Thanks. What would really look awesome (more work for you) is to trim out the the bottom of the angle and then the top of the angle. Look on Houzz. There are all sort of things you could do. You could paint the walls and ceiling one color, then the angle another. Just one idea.

Much more interesting than painting an accent wall, because you are following the bones of the house-----the architect's intention.

I would add a small moulding up a few inches then paint it all white It would make it look more substantial
