This is a drywall stove hood with wood moldings and a ceramic tile inset. It was hand made on the job site.

@ Camelot Homes: that is a beautifully done hood. All too often, with custom hoods, people go over the top and end up with a massive monstrosity that dominates the room. Your design is very elegant, and the tile insets are a nice touch!

@ jkmach: there are several ways of achieving this type of look without spending a lot of time or money.

First, you can purchase a customizable "classic style hood" and have it painted and/or decorated to your taste. Attached is an example of the Futuro Futuro "Mimosa" range hood which was customized with a copper-tone paint, embossed design, and the wood trim stained to match the cabinetry.

Second, you can use a "range hood insert", which is a fully-featured range hood, except without the outer shell, in combination with a custom-built hood (made from wood, stone, tile, sheetrock, etc). This gives you the easy integration and reliability of a manufactured hood, with the completely custom look of a handcrafted hood shell.
