Do appliance brands have to be the same?

I am gutting to studs my kitchen. I am so excited, but every appliance package I pick, there are a few things that get bad reviews. Is it OK in a high end kitchen to have an Electrolux cooktop and wall oven, and a Bosch microwave (which will be built in to a lower cabinet) and dishwasher? Is this poor taste? They will all be stainless. Be honest, I really want your opinion! Thanks!

It seems every appliance manufacturer has their strong suit. If you go with the same manufacturer, you are going to be replacing individual items that fail down the road. I would look at things like similar finish type and handle design after you narrow down which appliances you could be happy with.

Do your research as to who does what best. I am sure you will find them in the same finish and if possible the same or similar handle.

Thanks everyone! I am going to take your advice and just worry about finish and handles. This was so helpful, because I have to chose the appliances before they build the cabinets, so now they are chosen. Thanks again!

We've gutted our kitchen too. Because we noticed how much fridge heights vary (and having to replace a fridge after 5 years), our cabinet maker is installing trim pieces above and below the cabinet above the fridge so changes can be made down the road without affecting the upper cabinet while still maintaining a built-in look.

Don't worry, be happy! I know someone who didn't know they needed to select appliances so the kitchen could be built around those measurements. Of course, the builder just did the standard thing. Bad assumption on his part, since she wanted a "show house!" Then she bought all the biggest of everything, and the kitchen had to be torn out and done over! Brilliant!
