I think the tin speaks for itself and needs no additional adornment.

Can you use tile border of the exact tile you have already? Like a picture frame around it.

Find a tile with a tone similar to the tin - install it in a straight pattern to compliment the diagonal design of the tin pattern

Also does anyone think it might be too busy. We just created this kitchen and I feel like i have a lot going on :( But I love it. We have river bordaux granite with a lot of veins, copper sinks, bronze hardware, stainless steel appliances, and hand hewn beams on ceiling. I don't want to take away from all that we have done, but feel like I am missing something behind the stove.

Pictures would help with an answer.

If I'm understanding properly what you want to do, you want to use the vintage punched metal similar to how some people have a tile insert that is a picture? Yes, I think it might be too busy, but a lot depends on how you like your rooms to look. You have copper in your sink, goldish/copper tones in your countertop, dark faucet and hardware. It might just be one too many colors of metal.

The backsplash has to go in regardless of what you decide. I'd probably turn the metal into something like a framed photo and then see if it looks good on the area over the stove once the backsplash is in. If not, it can be hung anywhere. You could put a piece of plywood cut to fit behind it, painted black to match the faucet and cabinet hardware, with the metallic looking edging around it, or an actual picture frame custom made to fit. It's a lovely vintage piece, and I have seen a lot of simple metal wall decor that is not true vintage for sale.

I agree with dg remodeling, find a tile similar in color for the field and border that pulls some of the gray from the granite and use it at the whole backsplash. That way the tine will not feel too busy but rather more of a texture in the gray field.

I like your idea of using the tin as an inset behind the stove. Your kitchen looks warm, inviting and has character. The tin will only add to that.

How are you going to clean the tin backsplash with all that intricate detail? With a Wolf stove you must like to cook! I have glass tile backsplash which is easy to clean...not sure the tin would be so easy although it is quite pretty!

Gray and beige do not always work when combined. Patterned beige and differently-patterned gray do not work together. Your backsplash for the range should be easily cleanable. I don't think punched metal tile would be.
