Can upper kitchen cabinets be different than lower cabinets without lo

We have gutted our kitchen but I still can't settle on what cabinets I like. I lean toward contemporary, but hesitate to have all flat cabinets. One solid wall (storage) and all uppers will be flat white high gloss. I'm leaning toward slate grey lowers but always picture shaker style cabinets. Would this be a mistake? Any suggestions?

I have searched my files for images but haven't found exactly what you are describing.........

However, I feel like you should be ok with this combination.

I am sending an image of a kichen that we designed a few years ago which combines different color contemporary cabinetry.

I also found some images on line that combine cabinet styles successfully......

Therefore, I say that you should go for it..........

Instead of high gloss, consider more of a semi gloss finish. Match the sheen of the grey cabinets. Having the two tone and different door styles can work really well. Use a company that employs certified kitchen designers and they should be able to tie all of the other items into your cabinet choices.
