My husband and I are in love with houses built in the 1920's and have begun our house hunting search in Maryland. Most of the houses we have been interested in have fireplaces which need updating. I am curious to know the general cost for essentially redoing the outside of the fireplace: surround, mantle and hearth? I'm sure cost can vary substantially depending on materials and location of property, but am just looking for a general range.
