hello :) I noticed that your living room's tone is in the neutral, and if you don't mind, you can place a bright colored sofa (apple green or saturated blue perhaps?) to add some spice..
If you want, you can also place a crisp white cabinet to place some books and PLAIN BRIGHT COLORED PHOTO FRAMES on the top so that it could attract the visitors..
if you have a piano, it would be good too..

and the wall near the doorway? you can place live green plants to add some "life" to a rather plain room..

Card/games table? A built-in bar?

I'd like to see reading nook- upholster a cozy chair in fun fabric- add blanket for texture- and a side table for storage. Nice place to read/ work/ look at houzz.com... :). Tons of potential!!

How about a console table - or even 2 side by side. Would have walking room - and could even add some more pics for feature wall. Could put a runner under the table too for some color and to soften it.

Looks like the perfect place for a dry bar.

We are not really drinkers so a bar wouldn't suit us. I like the idea of creating a combined reading nook with a console or maybe even buffet / sideboards for storage. Although I'm a bit hesitant about adding too many chairs/sofas in the room so will have to have a think about defining the areas.

Em Em Borja you are right I do need colour in the room. We will be changing the cushions and rug in the lounge so that there a bit more life in the room. Suggestions are always welcome.

Do you work from home? How about a small desk? It could be placed on an angle with a bookcase on the 2.31 wall. Another rug would help define the area separate from the walking path from door to door.

I think I would do something like this photo (in YOUR design style table and chairs though). If you put a table and two accent chairs there with a lamp, this could be your reading nook, laptop area or do a puzzle. Then, if you have more guests, you can pull the chairs up to the sofa area and use the table as your beverage/snack table. You may even want an ottoman there for comfort reading.

I do occasionally work from home, however I already have a study set up in a room upstairs. Good tip on the rug for definition.

Thanks for the picture Darzy =) I like your thoughts on the multi-function the space could provide. Do you think the table and chair set up should be in the corner space (near the 3.21 x 2.31 nook) or should it be more centered on the 3.21 wall?

I would like it centered on the 3.21 wall and your art. It would be a nice focal point looking into the room. Speaking of your art, it looks like it's hung too high. The center should be about eye level.

Love the reading nook idea and Darzy's example with the higher table (if you're going to have to purchase one) is spot on because of its versatility. You could try both arrangements--corner and centered and see what you like best. It may be that you decide on only one chair and the table (will depend on size of the pieces).
