Change Outside Lani Metal Grate Ceiling

Hi, I need help for ideas to change my outside lani (Balcony) metal grate ceiling. I was wanting to make it tropical like Hawaii style, but the slit bamboo was too heavy. Above the metal grate is painted white and it hides the a/c units. Would appreciate your suggestions.
